WEST FRANKFORT -- Altamont Junior Legion suffered a loss but also picked up a victory in the Fifth Division American Legion Junior Tournament during the weekend.
In Saturday action, Altamont fell to the Orient Miners 1-0. Adam Waters pitched a complete game shutout and gave up just three hits, no walks and four strikeouts against Altamont.
Waters also drove in Orient's lone run in the seventh inning. Jacob Bartoni reached on an error and stole second before Ty Smith drew a walk. Waters then hit a fly ball to left field that scored Bartoni.
In Sunday action, Ryan Armstrong picked up the pitching victory as Altamont edged Vandalia 4-3 in seven innings.
Altamont pulled out the win when Milleville doubled and Brandon Helmuth hit a hard ball to the shortstop who couldn't handle it for an error and the winning run scored.
Altamont is back in action today against Belleville at 10 a.m. If Altamont wins, it will be back in action at 4 p.m.
