Bulldogs Second At Robinson Girls Tourney

ROBINSON -- Effingham St. Anthony finished second at the Robinson Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament during the weekend.On Friday, St. Anthony was a 52-43 winner over Marshall. The Bulldogs ripped out to an 18-6 opening quarter lead and never looked back in this one.

Nancy Ruholl scored seven in that opening quarter run on two baskets, one a three-pointer, and two of two at the line.

St. Anthony held a 28-14 halftime lead.

But Marshall came back with a 14-12 third quarter and had a 15-12 final period but couldn't make up that first half Bulldog run.

Three players hit double figures for the winners. Ruholl led the way with 16 points on four from the field that included two three-pointers, and six of eight at line. Ady Rios and Addi Nuxoll scored 10 each.

In the second contest, the Bulldogs ran into a tough opponent in Mount Carmel and fell 54-39.

The Golden Aces took a 18-11 opening quarter lead as Ruholl was the lone player scoring for the Bulldogs with all 11 points.

The Aces led 30-20 at halftime with an 18-9 second period. 

St. Anthony came back with an 11-9 third period but Mount Carmel finished out strong with a 15-8 final quarter.

St. Anthony was led by Ruholl with 23 points on 10 field goals, three from trifecta land.

On Saturday, St. Anthony defeated Robinson, 49-27. The Bulldogs edged out to a 9-6 opening quarter lead and led 18-13 at halftime. The Bulldogs had a 17-11 third quarter and then took off with a 14-3 final period to put the game in the victory column.

Ruholl led the way as the lone player in double digits for the Bulldogs with 23 on nine field goals, two from three-point range, and three of four at the line. Rios finished with nine points.

The Bulldogs claimed a 49-29 victory over Fairfield.

St. Anthony held a one-point lead after the opening quarter at 8-7 but pushed that to 20-15 at halftime. Ruholl connected on one three-pointer in each quarter while Rios had five points in the second period.

St. Anthony broke loose with a 21-6 third quarter to lead 41-21. Ruholl scored nine points while Rios added two three-pointers.

Ruholl tallied 18 on six field goalsl, four of those from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Rios tallied 11.
