Vandalia Claims District 23 East Division Tournament Title

Vandalia claimed the District 23 East Junior Legion Baseball Tournament championship over the weekend and will play today at 7:30 p.m. in Centralia for the 23rd District championship vs. the District 23 West champion. That winner advances to the Division Tournament Saturday.
Altamont finished second and also will play today at Centralia at 5 p.m. vs. the District 23 West runnerup.
In Saturday action in the District 23 Tournament here in Effingham, Teutopolis defeated Effingham 6-3 while Newton won over South Central 11-7. Newton then blanked Teutopolis 10-0 in a game that was finished Sunday at Altamont due to the weather.
Vandalia won over Altamont 2-1 in nine innings, also in a game played at Altamont after the completion of the games weathered out from Saturday.
In Teutopolis' win over Effingham Post 120, the winners tallied two in the first inning and led 6-0 until the bottom of the seventh when Effingham scored three runs only to fall short.
T-town had 11 hits in the contest led by Drees with a single, double and two RBI, Westendorf with four singles and an RBI, Roepke with two singles and Smith with a double and an RBI. Roepke was the winning pitcher on a seven-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.
Effingham was led by Sanders with a double and Martin with two singles.
