>>Cardinals Hold Off Padres

(St. Louis, MO)  --  Jake Westbrook shined at the plate and on the mound as the Cardinals held off the Padres 9-6 at Busch Stadium.  Westbrook went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for St. Louis, which has won three of its last four.  On the mound, he allowed two runs in six-and-two-thirds innings for his sixth win.  Matt Carpenter was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run in the win.  Edward Mujica locked up his 27th save.  Everth Cabrera knocked in two runs and scored once for San Diego, which has lost five-of-six.  Jason Marquis allowed six runs in five-and-one-third frames for the loss.  The Padres scored all their runs in the seventh inning and later.

 

>>Cubs Climb Past Rockies

(Denver, CO)  --  Anthony Rizzo laced an RBI double in the seventh to back Jeff Samardzija's strong outing as the Cubs beat the Rockies 3-1 at Coors Field.  Samardzija went seven-and-a-third innings of one-run ball to improve to 6-and-9.  Alfonso Soriano lifted a solo homer and Darwin Barney had an RBI double for Chicago, which had lost three out of five coming in.  Rookie Junior Lake went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in his major-league debut.  Kevin Gregg notched his 18th save in the win.  Dexter Fowler hit a solo homer for Colorado's lone run.  Edgmer Escalona took the loss in relief for the Rox, who have lost seven out of 11 contests.

 

>>Braves Sink White Sox

(Chicago, IL)  --  Brian McCann lifted a three-run homer to power the Braves by the White Sox 6-4 in Chicago.  Andrelton Simmons added a two-run shot for Atlanta, which has won two-of-three.  Justin Upton was 2-for-4 with two runs in the win.  Tim Hudson allowed four runs in seven-and-a-third innings but picked up his seventh win.  Craig Kimbrel secured his 27th save.  John Danks allowed five runs in seven frames for the setback.  Alexei Ramirez went 3-for-4 with two runs for Chicago, which has lost three straight.
