Spencer Patton Named To USA Roster For WSBC Premier-12 Competition

Spencer Patton has become one of 15 pitchers named to the USA roster for the WSBC Premier-12 baseball competition.

The 2024 Premier 12 will feature the world's 12 top-ranked teams in an international competition in Japan, Mexico and Taiwan.

Patton currently plays for Olmecas de Tabasco in the Mexican Baseball League.

The South Central High School graduate, was drafted out of Southern Illnois-Edwardsville University in 2011 by the Kansas City Royals.

He played in the Major Baseball League for parts of six seasons from 2014 to 2023 as part of the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics. Last year he threw in 12 games for the Oakland Athletics.

During the last season in Mexico, Patton threw in 42 games and had a 2.29 ERA with a 4-1 record. He struck out 64 batters in 39.1 innings.

Mike Scioscia will be the coach for Team USA. The squad will compete in Group A with Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Group B includes Australia, Cuba, the Dominican Repulbic, Japan, Korea and Chinese Taipei.

The USA squad will be competing in Guadalajara and Tepic, Mexico from Nov. 9-14. If they finish in the top two in the Group, they will then travel to Tokyo Nov. 21-24 to compete in the Super Round.

Saturday, Nov. 9 -- vs. Puerto Rico

Sunday, Nov. 10 -- vs. Netherlands

Monday, Nov. 11 -- vs. Venezuela

Tuesday, Nov. 12 -- vs. Panama

Thursday, Nov. 14 -- vs. Mexico
