St. Anthony, Altamont, Windsor-Stew-Stras, South Central Advance In NTC Baseball Tournament

Effingham St. Anthony, Altamont, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and South Central advanced in the National Trail Conference Baseball Tournament after claiming victories Monday.

The tournament will continue Wednesday with Altamont at St. Anthony and Windsor/Stew-Stras at South Central. Both games will be at 4 p.m. and both games will be heard on the radio. Altamont at St. Anthony can be heard on 979 XFM and the WSS at South Central game will be heard on KJ Country 102.3.

St. Anthony 5, CHBC 4

St. Anthony struck in the first inning and scored single runs through the first four innings. CHBC scored a single run in the third then tied the game in the sixth with three runs.

But the Bulldogs came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory.

St. Anthony had eight hits led by Brady Hatton with two singles, Henry Brent and Xander Beals with a double each. Aiden Lauritzen had a single and drove in two runs while Will Fearday and Alex Mayer added a single and an RBI each.

Brock Fearday ended up the winner on the mound. He went the final two innings, giving up no runs on no hits, one walk and struck out two.

The Bobcats finished with five hits but had three errors. Blake Mueller led the way with a single and drove in two runs. AJ Radloff chipped in with a single and an RBI.

Altamont 7, Dieterich 0

Altamont blanked Dieterich by a 7-0 count behind five hits and seven errors by the Maroons.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead. Altamont led 3-0 after three and 6-0 after five finishing out with a final run in the sixth.

Altamont made its hits count. Keegan Schultz had two singles and drove in a run while Zaine Miller had a double and an RBI and Dyson Wagner had a single and two RBI. Parker Bell finished with an RBI.

Wagner went six innings on the mound. He gave up two hits, one walk and struck out six.

Dieterich had three hits, all singles by Mason Lidy, Bryce Bohnhoff and Jaxon Funneman.

WSS 4, North Clay/Clay City 3

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg scored all four of its runs in the sixth inning to edge North Clay/Clay City by a 4-3 count.

The two teams went scoreless in the first five innings before the Hatchets broke loose with four in the top of the sixth. North Clay/Clty City came back with three in the bottom of the frame only to fall short.

The Hatchets had five hits led by Blayzz Verdeyen with a double, Jackson Gurgel with two singles and an RBI and Carter Verdeyen with a single and two RBI.

Aiden Sayers went the distance on the mound. He gave up three runs on seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two.

North Clay outhit the Hatchets by a 7-5 count. Trenton Ingram had a double and drove in two runs while Cody Zimdars had a double. The rest of the five hits were singles spread across five batters.

South Central 4, Neoga 2

South Central struck in the first inning, scoring two runs and went on for a 4-2 victory over Neoga.

The Cougars had single runs in the third and fourth. Neoga didn't score until the top of the seventh with both runs.

South Central had five hits led by Hudson Moore with a double and two RBI while Trevan Sidwell had two singles and an RBI. Brody Markley chipped in with a  single and an RBI.

Callaway Smith went the distance on the mound. He kept Neoga off the bases with 11 strikeouts and allowed only one walk. He gave up four hits.

Neoga was led by Matt Propst with a double. Garrett Ballinger and Kanen White had a single and an RBI each.
