With the All-Star break over, the Major League Baseball regular season resumes tonight with a full slate. All 30 clubs are in action to start the unofficial second half of the season. The Yankees and Red Sox will square off at Fenway Park in Boston. The Red Sox own the American League's best record at 58-39 and lead Tampa Bay by 2 1/2 games atop the AL East. The Yankees are fourth in the division at 51-and-44, six games back. Some of the other marquee matchups include the Dodgers against the Nationals in DC, the Orioles and Rangers in Texas, the Pirates and Reds in Cincinnati and the Diamondbacks and Giants in San Francisco. The St. Louis Cardinals have the majors' best record at 57-36. They host the Padres tonight with a one-game lead on Pittsburgh in the NL Central.
Cubs' Plan Going To City Council
(Chicago, IL) -- Plans to renovate Wrigley Field need to clear just one more hurdle. Once city council approves, renovations could start as early as this fall. The Chicago Plan Commission gave its OK last night following a change of heart from Alderman Tom Tunney. The plan proposed by Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts calls for more ballpark signage, a seven-story hotel on Clark Street, and a six-story office-retail building and plaza adjacent to Wrigley.
