T-town Jr. High Headed To State Baseball Tourney

Teutopolis Junior High School blanked Casey-Westfield by a 13-0 count in five innings to win its own Class 2A Baseball Sectional Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning then had a five-run fourth and finished the contest with a seven-run third.

Derek Drees went three innings on the mound for the win. He gave up no runs, no hits, two walks and struck out one. Maddux Pals finished out the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

The Shoes had eight hits led by Owen Lynch with a single, double and two RBI, Maddux Pals a double and an RBI and Bennett Schumacher and Kale Goeckner with a single and an RBI each.

T-town advances to the Class 2A State Tournament with a 13-8 record and will face Pleasant Plains (29-0) at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

Other teams  in the tourney are St. Joseph (19-4), Staunton (18-1), Green Valley Midwest Central (15-5), Beecher (17-4), Washington (16-8) and Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes (17-1).

The State Tournament runs Friday and finishes out Saturday with the third place game at 2:30 p.m. and the championship at 4:30.
