But someone had to come out the winner and someone had to go home with the loss as the two National Trail Conference teams squared off and this time around it was Dieterich who edged CHBC by a 2-1 count.
The Maroons opened the game scoring a run in the first inning. Andrew Hall drew a walk and Mason Niemerg came on as the courtesy runner. Mason Lidy sacrified Niemerg over and Gavin Meinhart followed with a single that scored Niemerg.
That's where the scoring stood for the next five innings as the two pitchers battled it out on the mound. Hall was the pitcher for Dieterich and finished the game throwing a one-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Kyle Lamb ended the game as the tough-luck loser, allowing only two runs on five hits, two walks and striking out five.
The two teams went up and down in order in the second and third before Dieterich sparked offensively as Bryce Bohnhoff and Jaxon Funneman led off the fourth with back-to-back singles. But the Bobcats got out of the frame unscathed, taking out the next three batters on two fly balls and a line drive out.
The Bobcats put a runner on base in the sixth as Kaidyn Calame drew a walk and stole second. AJ Radloff then singled Calame home and the score was tied at 1-1.
CHBC rumbled again in the seventh. Blake Mueller reached base on an error and was sacrificed over by Conner Vaughn. But Hall got tough, striking out the next batter and the final out came on a fly ball.
Then came the seventh inning heroics for Dieterich. Justin Boerngen led off with a double. A bunt by Ben Schottman in an attempt to sacrifice Boerngen over to third ended up as a fielder's choice and both runners were safe. Alex Schottman drew a walk to load the bases.
With one out, Mason Lidy hit a chopper to the left side and that singled home Boerngen for the winning run.
