St. Anthony, Sacred Heart, Teutopolis Win Regional Junior High Baseball Titles

Effingham St. Anthony, Effingham Sacred Heart and Teutopolis all claimed junior high baseball regional championships Saturday.

Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

St. Anthony blanked host Sigel St. Michael 8-0 to win this regional championship.

The Bullpups edged out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning then tacked on another single run in the third. St. Anthony then put together four runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Curtis Tingley led the way in the hitting department with a double, triple and three RBI. Kolin Kiefer finished with an RBI. Five other players had a single each.

Tingley also picked up the pitching win. He went five innings, allowing three hits, one walk while striking out 10. Charlie Hoene came on to throw the final two innings, giving up three hits while striking out three.

St. Michael had five hits but committed five errors. N. Platz led the way with two singles while E. Walk, T. Ballinger and Z. Ordner had a single each for the Sharpshooters.

St. Anthony advances to meet Effingham Sacred Heart today at the Okaw Valley Sectional at 4 p.m.

Class 1A South Central Regional

Effingham Sacred Heart claimed the championship of the South Central Regional Saturday.

The Shamrocks took a 2-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the second. CHBC came back with a run in the fifth but Sacred Heart ended the game with eight in the sixth by the 10-run rule.

Sacred Heart finished with nine hits led by Mason Karolewicz with a single, double and two RBI, Gabe Traub with a single and double, Jackson LaSarge with single and two RBI, Keaton Kruger with a double and Colton Mette with an RBI.

Karolewicz was the winner on the mound, throwing a one-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts.

CHBC's Colton Ondes had the lone hit, a single while Tyce Kircher had the lone RBI.

"We are extremely proud of our team," said CHBC Coach John Brown. "We accomplished a lot this year and for us to be able to play for a regional championship was an amazing experience for our young men. We played 25 games this year and in every one of them we competed and never gave up. Every one of our players is a great kid and they were a lot of fun to coach."

Sacred Heart advances to the Okaw Valley Sectional and will meet crosstown rival Effingham St. Anthony at 4 p.m.

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

The Teutopolis vs. Shelbyville Moulton game in the 2A T-town Regional Thursday was suspended to Saturday.

It came down to the wire as Teutopolis grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 7-6 over Shelbyville Moulton. The game had been suspendedi n the top of the 10th tied at 6-6 and resumed play Saturday.

Blake Niemerg singled, scoring one run for the win in the bottom of the 10th. Niemerg finished with three singles and two RBI while Owen Lynch had two singles and two RBI and Derek Drees two singles.

Blake Niemerg ended up with the win on the mound going the final three innings, allowing two runs on two hits, three walks while striking out six.

Teutopolis moved into the championship  game against Sullivan. The Wooden Shoes jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first after an error scored one run and Gus Martin singled, scoring two runs for the 3-0 lead.

The Wooden Shoes added on a single run in the fourth and four in the sixth.

Sullivan's lone run was in the top of the seventh on a solo homer.

Drees had two singles and drove in two runs for the Shoes while Sam Probst had a double and an RBI, Gus Martin a single and two RBI and Jack Weber a single and an RBI.

Kale Goeckner went the distance on the mound, allowing one run on four hits, no walks while striking out six.

The Wooden Shoes will face either Casey-Westfield or Marshall at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Teutopolis Sectional. Those two teams play today for the championship of the Marshall Regional at 4:30 p.m.
