Dieterich played host to Newton St. Thomas in junior high baseball action Friday and claimed a 9-8 victory.

The two teams played to a 1-1 opening inning tie before Dieterich broke loose with a seven-run second and led 9-1 after three. But St. Thomas came back with a run in the fourth and three in the sixth and seventh to pull within one only to fall short.

Dieterich had nine hits led by I. Niemerg with a single and double, O. Keck with two singles and two RBI, O. Goeckner with two singles and three RBI, Nussmeyer with a double and an RBI and O. Bohnhoff with two singles and one RBI.

Hall went 6.2 innings for the win on the mound. He allowed seven runs on seven hits, four walks while striking out three.

At Dieterich

At Newton

Teutopolis blanked Jasper County by a 10-0 count in Friday play.

Both teams had five hits. The Wooden Shoes were led by Derek Drees, Gus Martin and Blake Niemerg with a single and an RBI each. Jack Weber and Sam Probst added an RBI each.

Jasper County was led by C. Kistner with two singles.

T-town's Niemerg was the winning pitcher. He went four inings, allowing no runs on three hits, one walk while striking out four.

At Newton

At Neoga

North Clay handed Neoga  13-2 loss in Friday play. North Clay is now 2-2 in the National Trail Conference, 3-6 overall.

North Clay is back in action Tuesday at Altamont with a 4:30 p.m. start.

 

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg captured two victories during weekend play.

Stew-Stras blanked Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City by a 15-0 count in three innings Friday.

Noah Vonderheide was the winning pitcher, going three innings with five strikeouts and giving up only one hit.

Weston Friese and Rincker had two singles and two RBI each.

Lance Roadarmel had the lone hit for CHBC with a single.

In the Saturday contest, Stew-Stras edged Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond by a 5-4 count.

Stew-Stras scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to post a 5-4 come-from-behind victory.

ALAH scored a single run the third to take a 1-0 lead but the Comets plated two runs to move ahead 2-1. ALAH scored again in the top of the fifth to tie the game 2-2 but Weston Friese hit a two-out triple and scoredo n a wild pitch to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the fifth.

The visitors took the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring two unearned runs. That set the stage for the Comet heroics in the bottom of the seventh. Noah Pruemer led off with a single. With one out, Friese drilled his second triple of the game to tie the score. Stew-Stras then loaded the bases and Weston Spannagel hit a single to right center driving in the winning run.

Friese had two triples and an RBI while Spannagel had a single and an RBI for the winners.

At Effingham

Effingham was a winner over Olney in two games Saturday.

The Mustangs won the first contest 5-2, scoring three runs in the second and single runs in the third and sixth.

Effingham had five hits led by Coen Westjohn with two doubles and an RBI, Dagg Thompson with a single, double and three RBI and Elliott Brady with a single and an RBI.

Westjohn went 6.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits for the win. He did not give up a walk and struck out seven.

In the second game, Effingham tallied four runs in the second and never looked back in a 10-0 victory in six innings.

Da. Thompson went the distance on the mound, allowing only one hit, one walk while striking out 13.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs had seven hits and were aided by four Olney errors.

Da. Thompson had three singles while Hunter Harminson had a double and drove in three runs. Deek Thompson finished with an RBI.

Effingham St. Anthony's Liam McAllister and Charlie Hoene combined for a three-hitter on the mound as the Bullpups blanked Sigel St. Michael by an 8-0 count Saturday.

McAllister was declared the winning pitcher going the first three innings, giving up one hit, three walks and striking out one. Hoene came on to finish the final four innings, allowing two hits, no runs and striking out three.

Meanwhile the Bullpups had nine hits led by Blake Verdeyen with two singles and three RBI. Charlie Bierman added two RBI while James Trupiano had a single and an RBI. McAllister and Ben McDonald had an an RBI each.

Sigel St. Michael was led by Andrews, Dasenbrock and Platz with a single each.
