MATTOON -- Effingham Junior High School ran into a tough opponent as Mattoon blanked the Mustangs 10-0 in five innings of baseball via the 10-run rule Wednesday.

Mattoon took a 6-0 opening inning lead, tacked on two in the second and single runs in the fourth and fifth behind a nine-hit attack.

Meanwhile, Effingham could muster only three hits, all by Dagg Thompson with two singles and a double.

The Mattoon pitcher threw all five innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out six.

At Greenville

South Central got started off in the right direction with a 5-2 opening inning lead. The Falcons then added on 13 more runs for an 18-3 win in five innings Wednesday.

South Central had 11 hits led by Landon Lotz with a single, double, triple and four RBI. Jordan Smith added a single, double and two RBI while Aiden Strobel had a double and three RBI, Isaac Guerrettaz two singles and two RBI and Aiden Hoover two singles and one RBI. Colton Tockstein and Dexton Lotz finished with an RBI each.

Luke Doehring went 2.1 innings for the win allowing three runs on no hits, 10 walks and striking out two. Strobel came on to finish out with 2.2 innings allowing no runs on two hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

The Falcons improved to 3-0 on the season and are back in action today at Sigel St. Michael.

Dieterich edged North Clay (Louisville) by a 4-3 tally.

North Clay dropped to 0-4 and is back in action at Clay City today at 4:30 p.m.
