Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Cumberland 5-3 in junior high baseball competition Tuesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning. Stew-Stras moved ahead with a run in the second. But Cumberland came back to take the lead in the fourth by a 3-2 count. However Windsor/Stew-Stras then had a three-run fifth for the victory.

Weston Friese finished with a single and double for WSS while Samuel Gracey had two singles and two RBI.

Bryce Rincker was the winning pitcher.

Cumberland had three hits led by Holden Cisney with a single and double and Austin Dittamore with two singles and an RBI.

At Strasburg

At Teutopolis

Mattoon took a 3-0 first inning lead behind a single and double. It was quiet through the next three innings before Teutopolis knotted the score at 3-3 Tuesday when a player was hit by a pitch and Owen Lynch singled.

Mattoon then scored the winning run in the top of the seventh for a 4-3 victory.

The Wooden Shoes had five hits in the contest but committed three errors. T-town was led by Lynch, Derek Drees, Sam Probst, Jack Weber and Gus Martin with a single each. Lynch and Bennett Schumacher had an RBI each.

T-town isn't back in action until Saturday when the Shoes travel to Taylorville.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony trounced Altamont by a 16-1 count in three innings Tuesday.

The Bullpups edged out to a 4-0 first inning lead then tacked on a single run in the second and finished the game with 11 in the third. Altamont's lone run came in the third.

Blake Verdeyen led the win offensively with a single, double and one RBI for the Bulldogs. Paxton Coulter added a double and two RBI while Kolin Kiefer had a double and an RBI and Charlie Bierman and Charlie Hoene had a single and three RBI each. James Trupiano, Liam McAllister and Curtis Tingley added a single and an RBI each.

Reed Schumacher was the winning pitcher. He went three innings, allowing one run on two hits, two walks while striking out four.

At Effingham

At Beecher City

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City never gave up and battled back from a 9-1 deficit to take a 10-9 lead over Pana in the fourth inning. But the Panthers were able to push one more run across the plate in the sixth to tie the game. The game then ended at the 10-10 tie with the two hour time limit.

Cayden Ondes had a big day at the plate going three-for-four with three singles and driving in four runs. Max Kircher contributed a double while Lance Roadarmel added two singles and two RBI. Tyce Kircher had a single and two RBI. Brody Cox contributed an RBI.

"Our team never gave up," said Coach John Brown. "Facing such a large deficit can be daunting, but the boys took it an inning at a time and secured a tie from what was a sure defeat. It was truly an amazing effort from the entire team."

CHC is back in action Thursday at Altamont Lutheran with a 4:30 p.m. start.

Selmaville came calling and handed North Clay (Louisville) a 15-9 loss. 

North Clay dropped to 0-3 on the season and returns to play today at Dieterich in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
