Effingham blanked Neoga by a 14-0 count in five innings as the junior high baseball season got underway Wednesday.

D. Thompson and B. Garris combined to throw a no-hitter for Effingham. Thompson went three innings, giving up two walks while striking out seven. Garris came on to finish the final two innings allowing one walk while striking out five.

The Mustangs edged out to a 2-0 opening inning lead then had a nine-run second and a three-run third.

Effingham finished with 11 hits led by D. Thompson with two singles and four RBI, C. Westjohn with a single, double and an RBI, B. Garris with a triple and an RBI and B. Jones and E. Braddy with two singles and two RBI each.

At Mount Zion

Effingham St. Anthony opened its season with a 5-3 victory over Mount Zion Wednesday.

Mount Zion edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead before the Bullpups moved ahead with two runs in the second. St. Anthony added on single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

The Bullpups had seven hits led by Andrew Wagner and Charlie Bierman with two singles and an RBI each. Reed Schumacher had two singles and Liam McAllisiter added a single and an RBI.

Blake Verdeyen picked up the win on the mound. He went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, five walks while striking out three. Curtis Tingley came on to finish out going 2.1 innings allowing one hit and striking out one.

At Kinmundy

South Central's Isaac Guerrettaz threw a no-hitter over three innings as South Central pounded Sandoval by a 15-0 count Wednesday.

Guerrettaz did not allow a walk and struck out six.

South Central took a 6-0 lead in the first, then tacked on five in the second and finished the game in the third with four runs.

Aiden Hoover led the way offensively with two singles and four RBI while Nate Knutt added two singles and three RBI. Guerrettaz finished with a single and three  RBI and Colton Tockstein had a single and an RBI. Beb Skibinski finished with two RBI and Harrison Lash one RBI.

Sandoval tallied five errors in the game.
