Shelby County 611 Finishes Second At 4th Division Tournament

Shelby County Post 611 recently competed in the 4th Division Senior American Legion Tournament hosted by Danville at Gruber Park in Tilton, IL.

The following teams participated: #1 seed Danville Post 210, #2 seed Rantoul Post 287, #3 seed Shelby County Post 611 and #4 seed Watseka Post 23

This was a double elimination tournament and Shelby County Post 611 played five games.

Shelby County defeated Rantoul 6-2 in quarterfinals Thursday. Rantoul held a 1-0 lead in the opening inning but Shelby County fought back with a four-run second and went on for the four-run victory.

Ben Bridges had two singles and an RBI while Colten Bridges added two singles and Carter Chaney a double.

Nathan Trimble went four innings, allowing two runs on two hits, two walks while striking out three for the win.

Danville won over Shelby County 3-2 in the semifinals Friday. Danville held a 2-0 lead until the top of the sixth when Shelby County tied the score. Danville then tallied a single run in the bottom of the sixth for the victory.

Trimble had a double and drove in two runs for Shelby County.

In the third contest, Shelby County was a 7-3 winner over Rantoul Saturday. Shelby County took a 3-2 opening innings lead. Rantoul tied in the fourth but Shelby County scored four in the top of the seventh.

Shelby County had 10 hits led by Trimble with a home run and three RBI and Connor Manhart with three singles, a double and two RBI. Jackson Gurgel added two singles.

In the second game Saturday, Shelby County was a 9-3 winner over Danville. Shelby County struck early with a four-run first and tallied three more in the second and finished with two in the seventh.

Shelby County was led by Tyler Wetherell with three singles and two RBI, Gurgel with three singles and an RBI, Chaney witih a single, double and an RBI and Bridges with a single and double.

Shelby County fell to Danville 13-5 in a Sunday contest in the deciding championship game, being outhit by a 13-8 count.

Danvile took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and never relinquished it.

Shelby County had eight hits led by Wetherell with three singles and B. Bridges with a double and an RBI. Manhart had a single and an RBI.

Danville advances to the State Tournament being held July 31-August 3 in Barrington, IL.  

Shelby County finished its summer season with a 14-5 record.
