Ironically, Green, who graduated from Effingham High School, was drafted by the Blue Jays in 2010 but did not sign. He enrolled at the University of Louisville where he played college baseball for the Cardinals.
Back on January 31, 2023, Green signed a two-year, $8.5 million dollar deal with the Blue Jays. At the time, he was recovering from Tommy John surgery. He was activiated from the injured list September 1 and the next day, went to the mound for the Blue Jays.
Green's Major League professional career started with the Detroit Tigers who selected him in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB draft.
The Tigers traded Green on December 9, 2015 to the New York Yankees. Green started with the Scranton/Wilkes/Barre Railriders and the Yankees then promoted him to the Major Leagues on May 14, 2016. He began pitching May 16. He was called up as a reliever but the Yankees moved Green into the rotation. He suffered a sprained albow ligament after four starts.. He finished with eight starts and appeared in 12 games. He went 2-4 with an ERA of 4.73. He had 52 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings.
Green made his season deput in 2017 and was used as a reliever for most of the season. He finished the 2017 season with a 5-0 record, a 1.83 ERA and an 0.74 WHIP in 40 games.
He was with the Yankees during the 2018 season and into 2019 where he went 4-4 with a 4.17 ERA. In 2020. He made 22 appearances. In 2021, he had a 10-7 record with six saves. Green began the 2022 season with a 1-1 record and a save in 14 appearances. But, during a May 19 game, he left the game with discomfort in his right arm and had to undergo Tommy John surgery.
Green has come back from that surgery to now pitch for the Blue Jays. He has a 1-1 record with two saves, a 1.88 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP in 14 games he has been on the mound. In his last seven games, he has been in three games, throwing 2.1 innings, allowing one hit, one run, hasn't given up a walk and struck out two.
