Hearts Season Comes To End At Class 3A Baseball Regional

SALEM -- Effingham High School fell to Salem in the championship game of the Class 3A Salem Baseball Regional Saturday.

The Hearts could never get untracked in this one. Salem took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third as Rhett Detering hit a grand slam to left field for the Wildcats.

EHS came back with a run in the bottom of the third. But Salem tallied a run in the top of the fourth then added on two more in the sixth. EHS finished out with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Carter Braddy provided the pop in the middle of the lineup and led Effingham with two RBI. Spencer Fox, Kaiden Nichols, Colton Webb and Jude Traub each collected one hit for the Hearts. Nichols paced Effingham with two walks 

Overall EHS had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game but couldn't make contact with runners on base.

Rhett Detering, the No. 7 hitter for Salem, led the way with five runs batted in. The infielder went two-for-four on the day. Ryan Detering also provided the Wildcats with two hits, both singles and an RBi.
