Effingham Triumphs Over Charleston In Salem Baseball Regional

SALEM -- Effingham High Schoolt triumphed over Charleston by a 4-0 count in the Class 3A Salem Baseball Regional Wednesday.

The Hearts talllied a run in the bottom of the second when Spencer Fox stole home. EHS came back with three runs in the fifth inning.

Kaiden Nichols earned the pitching victory. The lefty allowed no runs on five hits over six and a third innings. He struck out nine and walked four. Jude Traub came on for the final two outs, one on a strikeout.

Camden Raddatz went one-for-three at the plate as the shortstop led the team with one run batted in. Raddatz and Brody Boehm each collected a single for the Hearts' two lone hits.

EHS took advantage of three Charleston errors and five walks.

The Trojans finished with five hits led by Luke Bonnstetter with two singles and Brett Spour with a double.

Bonnstetter was the losing pitcher, going five innings, allowing four runs on two hits, five walks while striking out seven.

Effingham improved its record to 21-10.

The Hearts, seeded second, will take on either No. 3 Mattoon or No. 6 Salem Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional championship. Those two teams meet today at 4:30 p.m.

The winner of the Salem Regional advances to the Troy Triad Sectional Wednesday, May 29 at 2 p.m.
