Effingham Hands Centralia 9-4 Baseball Loss

Effingham High School's Jude Traub collected three hits in four at-bats as Effingham handed Centralia a 9-4 baseball loss Monday.

Traub hit a solo homer to left field in the second inning, singled in the sixth and doubled in the seventh as the Hearts stepped out to an early lead. EHS held a 3-0 opening inning lead then added on single runs in the second, fifth and seventh and three in the sixth.

Colton Webb doubled in the first inning, scoring a run. Centralia pitcher Mike Organ induced Spencer Fox to hit into a fielder's choice, but two Hearts runs scored on the play.

Traub hit his solo shot in the second.

Effingham finished with 10 hits in the game. Traub had a single, double, home run and two RBI while Camden Raddatz added three singles. Colton Webb had a single, double and an RBI and Fox a single and an RBI. Kaden Koeberlein finished with an RBI.

Koeberlein picked up the win on the mound. He went four innings, allowing one hit while striking out two. Raddatz went 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on three hits, two walks and striking out two. Rylan Pals finished out the final 10th of an inning, allowing one hit and one walk.

The Hearts finished out regular season play and will now head to the Class 3A Salem Regional Wednesday. The No. 2 seeded Hearts will meet Charleston, a 12-2 winner over Richland County (Olney) in Monday play. The two teams will square off at 4:30 p.m. In Thursday action, No. 3 Mattoon takes on No. 6 Salem at 4:30 p.m.

The winner will advance to the champoinship game Saturday at 11 a.m.
