Effingham St. Anthony claimed the championship of the Class 2A Marshall Regional.

MARSHALL -- Effingham St. Anthony claimed the championship of the Class 2A Marshall Baseball Regional Saturday.

The Bulldogs handed Newton an 8-2 loss behind a 14-hit attack. St. Anthony edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then tacked on two more runs in the second and two more in the third to lead 5-0. St. Anthony finished with a three-run fifth.

Newton's two runs came in the top of the seventh.

Connor Roepke finished with three singles and drove in a run while Sam Link had two singles and three RBI, Brock Fearday three singles. Brady Hatton two singles and Max Koenig a single and two RBI.

B. Fearday threw a six-hitter, giving up two runs, one walk and striking out seven for the win on the mound. Joseph Tegeler, allowing one hit finished the contest.

Newton had seven hits led by David Ferguson with a double, Drake Wolf two singles and Gus Bierman a single and an RBI.

The Bulldogs advance to the Greenville Sectional Wednesday and will take on Roxana at 2 p.m. followed by Columbia against Teutopolis at 4:30.

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis won its own regional by beating Flora 6-1 in the championship contest Saturday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning. The Wooden Shoes moved into a 3-1 lead in the second. Things were quiet in the third and fourth before T-town scored its  final three runs in the fifth.

The Wooden Shoes banged out 12 hits in the contest while Garrett Gaddis held Flora to two hits. Gaddis went the distance giving up one run, two walks while striking out 11.

Meanwhile, T-town bats were active. Zac Niebrugge had a double, triple and drove in three runs while Devin Kreke had three singles, Mick Niebrugge two singles and two RBI and Mitch Koester two singles

Coach Justin Fleener's crew improved to 22-11 with the victory. Flora ended the season with a 15-20-1 record.

T-town will now head to the Greenville Sectional and take on Columbia at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. In the opening game at Greenville, St. Anthony faces Roxana at 2 p.m.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg won the championship of the Casey-Westfield Regional Saturday by beating Neoga, 4-1.

The Hatchets moved into a 1-0 third inning lead and tacked on two more in the fourth. WSS finished out with one in the sixth. Neoga's lone run came in the top of the seventh.

Jackson Gurgel went the distance on the mound. He allowed one run on three hits, five walks and striking out six.

Meanwhile, Gurgel had a double for the Hatchets. Ben Bridges added a single and two RBI while Blake Verdeyen, Branson Tingley, Colten Bridges and Carter Verdeyen added a single each.

Neoga was led by Colin Blazich with a single and double and Landon Titus with an RBI.

Class 1A North Clay Regional

This contest went scoreless through the first five innings in a pitcher's duel Saturday.

But Altamont"s Nathan Stuemke came up with the big hit, a solo shot in the sixth and the Indians pulled out a 1-0 victory over North Clay (Louisville).

Altamont's Dillan Elam threw a three-hitter with three walks while striking out five for the pitching victory.

Ian Jones suffered the loss, giving up three hits, two walks and striking out three.

Carder Walden led the Cardinals with a double. Ayden Jones and I Jones had a single each.

Altamont's other two hits were singles by Keegan Schultz and Clayton Arnold.

The Indians advance to the South Central Sectional Wednesday and will meet Bethany Okaw Valley at 7 p.m. The opener will feature two other National Trail Conference teams, South Central and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m.

Class 1A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

South Central won its own championship by an 8-4 count over Edwards County (Albion) Saturday.

The Cougars finished with a five-run third and tacked on a single run in the fourth and two in the sixth. Edwards County didn't come to life until the fourth with a run, then had two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

South Central's Colton Smith hit a single, double and drove in four runs. Brady Markley finished with two RBI. Max Magnus had two singles and Coen West a single and an RBI. Zane Montes added one RBI.

Callaway Smith threw the victory on the mound. He went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits, five walks while striking out seventh. Trevan Sidwell finished the final innings with one strikeout.

The Cougars advance to its own sectional Wednesday and will meet National Trail Conference opponent Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. The second game features Altamont against Bethany Okaw Valley at 7.
