St. Anthony, T-town, Altamont, S. Central, CHBC Win In Baseball Regionals

MARSHALL -- Effingham St. Anthony advanced to the championship game of the Class 2A Marshall Baseball Regional with a 6-1 victory over host Marshall Wednesday.

The Bulldogs moved into a 3-0 opening inning lead. Marshall tallied a run in the second. St. Anthony came back with a three-run third and that was all the scoring in the game.

Marshall outhit St. Anthony by an 8-6 count but the Bulldogs lofted the long ball. Brady Hatton and Beau Adams knocked out a home run each. Hatton finished with three RBI while Adams' hit was a solo shot. Max Koenig added a double and Connor Roepke finished with a single and an RBI.

Aiden Lauritzen went six innings against the Lions, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks. He struck out 12 Marshall batters.

With the victory, the Bulldogs move into the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. The Bulldogs will take on either Newton or Lawrenceville. Those two teams play today at 5 p.m.

Class 2A Teutopolis Regional

Teutopolis banged out 10 hits while Logan Lawson and Gavin Addis held Cumberland to only four hits in a 16-2 win in five innings via the 10-run rule Wednesday.

Cumberland held a 2-0 opening inning lead. But the Wooden Shoes bounced back with a 10-run second, tacked on four in the third and two in the fourth.

The Wooden Shoes were led by Mitch Koester with two singles, a double and two RBI and Zac Niebrugge with a single, double and four RBI. Austin Borries had a double and drove in three runs while Davin Worman had two singles. Garrett Gaddis had a single and an RBI while Brett Kreke and Devin Kreke added an RBI each.

Lawson went four innings, giving up two runs on four hits, two walks while striking out five for the win on the mound. Addis came on to throw the final inning with two strikeouts.

Cumberland was led by Maddox Miller with a single and an RBI and Wyatt Watkins with an RBI. The Pirates end the season with a 12-15 record.

Flora blanked Robinson in the second game of the day, 7-0.

Teutopolis improved to 21-11 on the season and will now take on Flora for the regional championship Saturday at 10 a.m.

Class 1A North Clay (Louisville) Regional

Altamont went on a hitting streak, with 14 in the contest, and finished with a 14-1 victory over Dieterich in five innings due to the 10-run rule Wednesday.

Neither team scored until the Indians broke loose with two runs in the third. Altamont then went on a tear, bringing home 12 runs in the fourth. Dieterich scored its lone run in the fifth.

Dillan Elam led the hitting attack with a single, double and five RBI. Kade Milleville finished with three singles and two RBI. Eli Miller and Keegan Schultz had a single, double and an RBI each. Kaidyn Miller added two singles and an RBI. Nathan Stuemke added a single and two RBI while Clayton Arnold had a single and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Ethan Robbins kept the Maroons off the bases, giving up only one run on two hits. He struck out six and walked three.

Dieterich's hits, were singles by Landen Keck and Lucas Westendorf. Theo Wenske had an RBI.

Altamont advanced to the championship game Saturday at 10 a.m. North Clay/Clay City and Brownstown/St. Elmo square off today at 4 p.m. for the right to meet Altamont.

Class 1A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

South Central edged Cisne, 3-2 to advance to the championship game of the Edwards County Regional.

The Cougars held a 1-0 lead after the first inning then tacked on one in the fourth. Cisne came back with a single run in the fifth and tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh. The game went into the eighth and South Central pulled out the victory with a run in the bottom of the frame.

The Cougars outhit Cisne by a 10-5 count. Evan Hoover led the way with three singles and an RBI while Coen West added a single and double. Colton Smith finished with a double and Maddox Robb had a single and an rBI.

West went 7.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, four walks while striking out six. Trevan Sidwell came on to get the final out.

In the opening game of the evening, Edwards County (Albion) edged Red Hill (Bridgeport), 1-0.

Edwards County and South Central now square off Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional championship.

Class 1A Casey-Westfield Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City advanced in the Casey-Westfield Regional Wednesday.

The Bobcats trounced Kansas Co-op by a 15-0 count. CHBC scored 11 runs in the second inning and tacked on four more in the fourth to end the contest.

Clayton Wojcik picked up the win, throwing a no-hitter. He went four innings, giving up no walks while striking out seven.

CHBC banged out 16 hits. Wyatt Rueff led the way with two singles, a double and three RBI while Conner Nowitzke had two singles, a double and an RBI. Blake Mueller added two singles and three RBI, Carson Evans two singles and two RBI. Wojcik added a double and two RBI and Donaldson two siingles and an RBI.

CHBC will now face National Trail Conference opponent Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. today.

Friday's game features Casey-Westfield against Neoga at 4:30. The winners of these two games meet Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional championship.
