Shoes, Indians, Cougars, Cardinals Win In Regular Season Baseball

MOUNT VERNON -- Teutopolis High School took the first inning lead and never looked back in a 10-1 victory over Mount Vernon in high school baseball regular season baseball action Monday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 5-1 first inning lead and added on three in the third and two in the fifth.

Devin Kreke had two singles and two RBI for the Shoes while Zac Niebrugge had two singles and an RBI. Conner Hoelscher and Mitch Koester banged out a double each. Austin Borries and Brett Kreke finished with a single and an RBI each. Garrett Gaddis, Davin Worman and Mick Niebrugge added an RBI each.

Carter Hoene picked up a win on the mound. He went five innings, allowing one run on two hits, four walks and striking out five. Andrew Probst came on to go the final two innings, giving up only one walk.

T-town finishes the regular season with a 20-11 record. Mount Vernon dropped to 13-18.

The Wooden Shoes will be back in action Wednesday in the semifinals of its own Class 2A regional against Cumberland, a 3-2 winner over Vandalia Monday.

At Newton

Altamont came calling at Newton and handed the Eagles an 8-1 loss behind a 13-hit attack Monday.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning then tacked on two runs in the third and fourth innings and finished with three in the sixth.

Ethan Robbins hit a home run and had two RBI while Kaden Davis and Eli Miller had three singles and two RBI each. Nathan Stuemke contributed a double. Clayton Arnold and Riley Berg had a single and drove in a run each.

Six pitchers took turns on the mound for Altamont. Robbins went the first two innings and gained the win, allowng one hit and striking out two.

Newton finished with four hits led by Gavin Meinhart with two singles and an RBI and Gus Bierman with a double.

At Farina

South Central edged Zeigler-Royalton by a 10-9 tally Monday.

The Cougars took a 6-4 lead after three innings, then tacked on single runs in the fourth and sixth. Zeigler-Royalton came back to lead 9-8 in the sixth. But South Central won in the bottom of the seventh with two runs.

Maddox Robb led the way in hitting with two singles, a home run and one RBI. Callaway Smith added two singles and an RBI, Brody Markley a single and two RBI while Max Magnus added two RBI. Colton Smith had a single and also drove in a run.

Four pitchers went to the mound for South Central. Zane Montes ended up as the winner in the seventh. He had one strikeout.

At Louisville

North Clay downed Casey-Westfield by a 3-1 tally Monday in a regular season contest.

The Cardinals improved to 17-13 -1 on the season and will host regional action. Wednesday's games features Altamont against Dieteirch at 4 p.m. North Clay will face Brownstown/St. Elmo at 4 p.m. Thursday. In Monday's opener, Webber Township (Bluford) forfeited to Dieterich.

The winners advance to the championship game Saturday.
