EHS Edges St. Anthony In Final City Series, Baseball Roundup

Effingham High School edged Effingham St. Anthony, 6-5 to win the final game of the City Baseball Series Friday.

The Hearts took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. St. Anthony pushed into a 2-1 lead in the top of the third but EHS came back to move ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. They added on three more runs in the sixth to lead 6-2. The Bulldogs came roaring back in the top of the seventh only to fall a run short.

EHS finished with eight hits. Colton Webb hit a solo homer. Brayden Verdeyen added two singles and drove in three runs. Jude Traub and Carter Braddy had two singles each while Kade Koeberlein added aisngle and an RBI.

The Bulldogs finished with three hits led by Brock Fearday with a double and two RBI and Aidan Lauritzen with a single and two RBI. St. Anthony celebrated Senior Night.

Along with leading EHS in hitting, Webb also was the winner on the mound. He went six innings, giving up five runs on three hits, four walks while striking out four.

At Altamont

Altamont played host to Shelbyville Friday and claimed a 5-1 victory.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead and had two-run innings in the fourth and fifth.

Dillan Elam picked up the pitching win. He went 3.2 innings allowing one hit, three walks while striking out five.

Altamont had four hits led by Kaden Davis with two singles and an RBI and Riley Berg with a single and two RBI. Kade Milleville and Nathan Stuemke added an RBI each.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo easily handled Ramsey by a 14-1 count in five innings Friday.

The Bombers put the game away in the opening inning with 12 runs. They tacked on single runs in the second and third.

Keelan Speagle went four innings, allowing only one run on no hits, four walks and striking out five.

Adam Atwood led the way offensively for the Bombers with two singles, a double and three RBI. Cade Schaub added three singles and an RBI, Lucas Powell a single, double and three RBI, Josiah Maxey two singles and two RBI, Collin Maxey a single and an RBI and Gavin Sanders with an RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 8-12-1 on the season and returns to action Tuesday against Woodlawn.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg went eight innings before edging Neoga, 4-3 Friday.

Neoga outhit the Hatchets by an 8-5 count but committed three errors.

WSS held a 1-0 lead in the third and led 3-1 in the fourth. Neoga came back with two in the fifth and that's where the scoring ended.

Kendall Morris had two singles for the winners while Blayzz Verdeyen, Derk Friese and Jackson Gurgel added a single and an RBI each. Colton Bridges finished with an RBI.

Neoga had five hits led by Matt Propst with three singles, Riley Durdel with two singles and an RBI and Trey Sheehan with a single and an RBI.

Verdeyen was the winner on the mound. He went 3.2 innings, allowng one run on four hits, one walk and striking out five.

At Williamsville

Williamsville defeated Teutopolis 4-3 with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh Saturday.

But the Wooden Shoes came back and claimed a 3-2 victory over Wililamsville.

 

At Louisville

Breese Central blanked North Clay (Louisville), 10-0.

The Cardinals dropped to 16-13-1 on the season and is back in action today against Casey-Westfield at 4:30 p.m.
