Effingham Drops DH To Charleston In Baseball

Effingham High School split an Apollo Conference doubleheader in baseball to Charleston Saturday.

The Hearts lost the opener 1-0 as Charleston scored one in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Corbin Parker. That's the only hit for the Trojans in the game.

The Hearts had four hits, all singles by Kaiden Nichols, Kaden Koeberlein, Camden Raddatz and Jude Traub.

Luke Bonnstetter earned the win for Charleston giving up four hits, striking out six and walking none.

Colton Webb suffered the tough-luck loss, going all six innings, allowing one run on one hit, two walks and six strikeouts.

Effingham came back to take a 7-0 victory in the second contest behind an 11-hit attack. Meanwhile, Nichols threw a one-hitter over 6.1 innings. He allowed two walks and struck out nine.

The Hearts stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and added on a single run in the second and two in the fourth.

Koeberlein had a double while Colton Webb added two singles and two RBI. Braxton Lewis and Carter Braddy with two singles and an RBI each. Nichols had two singles and Raddatz a single and an RBI. Spencer Fox added an RBI.

In junior varsity play, Charleston was a 3-1 winner in game one. Both teams had two hits. The Hearts were led by Will Hecht and Andrew Wagoner with a single each. EHS led 1-0 until the third when Charleston tied the score and then won with two runs in the fourth.

In the second game, Charleston claimed an 8-1 victory stepping out to a 2-0 first inning lead and never looking back.

Effingham outhit the Trojans 4-2. Wagoner had a single and double while Jacob Warner added a single and an RBI.
