Bulldogs, Maroons Win, Shoes, Indians Fall In Baseball

MARSHALL -- Effingham St. Anthony blanked Marshall 10-0 in five innings of high school baseball Saturday.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-0 first ining lead. Things were quiet through the next two innings before St. Anthony tallied four in the fourth and ended the game with four in the fifth.

Joseph Tegeler went four innings, allowing two hits, two walks while striking out six for the win. Samuel Link came on to finish out the final ininng allowing one walk and striking out one.

Brock Fearday led the offensive attack with a double, home run and three RBI while Aidan Lauritzen had two singles, a double and an RBI. Will Fearday and Max Koenig had a double and an RBI each and Connor Reopke had a single and two RBI.

In junior varsity action, St. Anthony claimed an 11-1 win behind 14 hits.

The Bulldogs were led by Eric Utz with two singles, a double and three RBI and Will Bierman with two doubles and three RBI. Xander Beals added a singe, double and two RBI, Quentin Stephens three singles, Drake Brown a double and an RBI and Hayden Bushur with two singles and an RBI.

Maddux Clark was the winning pitcher, going two innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out four.

At Dieterich

Dieterich ran out to a 7-0 opening inning lead and ended this game in the fifth via the 10-run rule, 15-1 over Ramsey Saturday.

The Maroons finished with nine hits in the contest led by Jaxon Funneman with a single, double and an RBI, Carson Baxter with two singles and three RBI, Mason Lidy with two singles and an RBI and Lucas Westendorf with a single and two RBI.

Gavin Meinhart won on the mound. He went 4.2 innings, allowing one run on seven hits, no walks while striking out 10.

Dieterich then edged Robinson, 12-11 in eight innings. The Maroons held a 6-5 lead after three innings. Robinson came back to move ahead 10-8 in the sixth and pushed that to 11-8 in the top of the seventh. But Dieterich came back to tie the score with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and won the game with one in the eighth.

The Maroons banged out 17 hits in the game led by Andrew Hall with four singles and two RBI, Meinhart with three singles and two RBI, Justin Boerngen with three singles and an RBI and Lidy and Baxter had two singles and an RBI each. Westendorf added a single and two RBI.

At Freeburg

Teutopolis fell twice at Freeburg. The Wooden Shoes lost to the host school, 5-3 in the opener.

T-town took a 3-2 opening inning lead but Freeburg came back with two in the third and tallied a final run in the sixth.

Freeburg had eight hits and was aided by five Wooden Shoes errors.

Davin Worman had a solo home run for T-town as the Shoes had only four hits in the game.

Gibault Catholic then edged T-town, 2-1. Both teams scored a run in the first inning. Gibault Catholic then tallied another run in the third.

Both teams had five hits.T-town was led by Garrett Gaddis with three singles and Mick Niebrugge with two singles and an RBI.

Teutopolis dropped to 13-8 for th spring. The Shoes host South Central today.

Charleston played host to Altamont and sent the Indians home with a 12-2 loss in five innings Saturday.

The Trojans had 14 hits in the game while Altamont could muster only three. Kaidyn Miller had a double and an RBI while Clayton Arnold had a double. Kade Milleville had a single and an RBI.

Altamont committed two errors.

At Effingham

Effingham dispatched St. Anthony 9-2 in junior varsity baseball action Thursday.

The Hearts got on board in the first inning after a passed ball scored one run. Three more runs crossed the plate in the second inning extending the EHS lead to 4-0. Aiden Feldhake drew  a walk, scoring one run and Keegan Koester homered to left field, scoring two runs.

Wyatt Hayes had a double, triple and three RBI while Carter Barddy had a single and double. Keegan Koester hit a home run and finished with two RBI. Brayden Tucker had a double.

St. Anthony had only one hit, a single lby Alex Mayer. Eric Utz had an RBI.

Jude Traub threw four innings, allowing one hit, three walks and striking out nine. Brayden Tucker went three innings, giving up one run, four walks and striking out one.
