Major League Baseball star Scott Spiezio was in Effingham Sunday night as the guest speaker for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes "Night of Champions". The event is a major fundraiser for FCA, which ministers to coaches and their spouses, so they can impart wisdom to their athletes.

Spiezio shared about the great start to his career, then the major injury he suffered that resulted in a series of poor choices including alcoholism and drug use. He was in rehab several times before finally being delivered from alcohol use six years ago.

Spiezio shared that he had an awareness of God, but finally became a follower of God, and spoke about the difference that has made.

Spiezio was a World Series winner with the 2002 Angels and the 2006 Cardinals. He and his father, Ed, share a distinction as the only father and son with two World Championships and winning a championship with the same team. Ed Spiezio was a part of the World Series champion Cardinals teams in 1964 and 1967.

Our Greg Sapp had the opportunity to talk with Scott Spiezio following Sunday night's event. He asked Scott to talk about the focus of his presentation...

The evening also featured panels of high school and junior high athletes and coaches who discussed the benefits of FCA.
