Cougars Win Twice, Shoes Split, Newton Downs C'land In Baseball

The Cougars pounded Ramsey 11-1 in five innings in Friday play. South Central took a 5-0 first inning lead and had three-run innings in the third and fourth.
South Central finished with eight hits led by Coen West with two singles and two RBI, Colton Smith with two singles and Brody Markley, Maddox Robb, Trevan Sidwell and Callaway Smith with a single and an RBI each. Zane Montes provided an RBI.
Montes was the winning pitcher, going the first two innings, allowing no runs on one hit, one walk while striking out five.
In a Saturday contest, South Central downed Pinckneyville, 10-1.
The Cougars banged out 13 hits in the game led by Calloway Smith with a double, home run and one RBI and West with a single, double, home run and two RBI. Hudson Moore added a single, double and two RBI and Sidwell and Magnus two singles and an RBI each. Brody Markley chipped in wtih a double and an RBI.
Markley went 2.1 innings allowing one run on two hits, six walks and striking out five for the pitching victory.

At St.Joseph
Teutopolis split victories with St. Joseph-Ogden in Saturday action.
The Wooden Shoes lost the opener in a close 2-0 contest. St. Joseph-Ogden struck quickly with a run in the first inning then tacked in one in the sixth.
T-town had two hits, both doubles by Conner Hoeslcher and Brett Kreke.
In the second game, T-town took a 1-0 first inning lead but St. Joseph-Ogden came back with five in the second and led 6-3 after three innings.
But the Wooden Shoes went on a tear offensively with six runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and seventh for a 15-8 win.
T-town finished with a heavy-duty offense that included 18 hits. Davin Worman had a double, triple and three RBI while Mick Niebrugge had two singles, a double and three RBI. Kreke continued his big-time offense with two singles, a triple and an RBI. Dawson Hoene added a triple and an RBI while Joey Niebrugge added a double and two RBI, Mitch Koester three singles, Zac Niebrugge a single and double and Evan Waldhoff two singles.
Gavin Addis went five innings allowing six runs on nine hits, one walk and striking out three for the mound victory. Waldhoff finished the final two innings, allowing two runs, one walk and one strikeout.
The Wooden Shoes improved to 6-4 on the spring while St. Joseph-Ogden is now 11-2. T-town is back in action today at Effingham on a game that can be heard on KJ Country 102.3.

At Toledo
Newton came calling at Cumberland and picked up an 11-6 victory in a Friday baseball contest.
The Eagles struck with a three-run first inning and led 4-1 after two. Cumberland came back with two in the third and moved into a 5-4 lead in the fourth then a 6-4 lead in the fifth.
However, Newton rallied with a six-run sixth and tacked on a final run in the seventh.
The Eagles had nine hits and were aided by seven Pirates errors.
Drake Wolf finished with wo singles, a double and three RBI while Max Meinhart added two singles and two RBI and David Ferguson two singles. Isaac Flowers had a single and drove in two runs and Peyton Harris had two RBI.
Wolf was the winning pitcher, coming on in the fourth, allowing three runs on five hits, two walks and striking out three.
Cumberland was led by Hudson McElravy with two singles, Wyatt Jackson and Maddox Miller with a single and two RBI each, Reed Miller with two singles and Lance Lock with an RBI.
