EHS Blanks Altamont, Friday's Area Baseball Roundup

Effingham High School blanked Altamont by a 4-0 count in a baseball game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Friday.

The Hearts took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Kaden Koeberlein drew a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. Camryn Raddatz followed with a triple, scoring Koeberlein.

EHS tallied another run in the third. It started again with a walk as Kaden Nichols drew a walk and took second on a wild pitch. Koeberlein followed with his second walk and a ground out by Raddatz scored Nichols for a 2-0 lead.

Altamont got a single from Nathan Stuemke in the first inning and a second by Eli Miller in the second. Kaden Davis singled in the third. But the Indians couldn't get any of their runners advanced.

EHS pushed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth as Brody Boehm was hit by a pitch, and stole second. Carter Braddy drew a walk. Boehm came home on a sacrifice by Nichols.

EHS put together its final run in the fifth. Once again, a walk was issued, this time to Colton Webb. An error put Webb on second. A fielder's choice brought Webb home.

Koeberlen went the distance on the mound for the Hearts allowing  six hits while not giving up a walk and striking out three.

Walks were the issue for the Indians as they allowed nine in the contest. The Indians dropped to 2-3.

Effingham improved to 4-0 on the season.

In the junior varsity game, Altamont was a 6-1 winner. Altamont scored single runs through the first four innings and scored two in the fifth. The Hearts lone run came in the first.

Kaidyn Miller had two singles and an RBI for Altamont. Miller was also the winning pitching, allowing one run on three hits, one walk and five strikeouts.

Effingham was led by Wyatt Hayes, Wade Bushur and Aidan Feldhake with a single each.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis took a 2-0 first inning lead and went on for a 5-2 victory over Fairfield.

Mick Niebrugge led the hitting attack for the Wooden Shoes with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Austin Borries added a double and two RBI. Davin Worman had a single and an RBI.

The Wooden Shoes improved to 4-2 and will be back in action today hosting Mahomet-Seymour.

Fairfield dropped to 3-2.

Borries went five innings, allowing only one hit, one walk while striking out four.

At Dieterich

Eleven seemed to be the best number for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City as the Bobcats had 11 hits and captured an 11-2 win over Dieterich Friday.

The Maroons edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead but CHBC came back with a run in the second and moved ahead 4-2 in the top of the third. The Bobcats finished with 11 hits led by Clayton Wojcik with two singles and two RBI. Layne Jones added a single and two RBI and Carson Evans finished with two singles. Wyatt Rueff, Hunter Pope and Conner Nowitze had a single and an RBI each.

Dieterich was led by Luke Westendorf with two singles and Dominic Ashley and C. Baxter with a single and an RBI each.

Kyle Lamb was the winning pitcher going 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, five walks and striking out five.

Okaw Valley claimed a 10-6 victory over Brownstown/St. Elmo Friday.

Okaw Valley took a 2-0 first inning lead. BSE tied in the top of the second but Okaw  Valley came back with four runs in the bottom of the second and led 8-3 after three. BSE pulled within 8-6 in the fifth inning. Okaw Valley came back with two in the sixth.

BSE finished wtih six hits but had five errors.

Cade Schaub had a single and double. Lucas Powell had two RBI. Adam Atwood and Gavin Sanders had a single and an RBI each.

Brownstown/St. Elmo dropped to 2-1 and is back in action Tuesday against Neoga.

At Bethany

At Newton

Newton took a 2-0 lead and held it until the fourth inning when Charleston scored a run. The Trojans then moved into a 6-3 lead in the fifth and that's where the scoring ended for both teams Friday.

Newton had six hits led by Isaac Flowers, Drake Wolf and Payton Harris with two singles each. Harris had two RBI.

Charleston had nine hits.
