EHS, BSE Win, Newton Claims Two, Baseball Roundup

The Hearts got on board in the first inning after Kaden Koeberlein hit a sacrifice fly to score a run. But Casey-Westfield tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
A home run to left field by Jude Traub gave Effingham a 3-1 lead in the top of the second.
Four more runs crossed the plate in the third inning, extending the lead to 7-1. Camden Raddatz doubled, scoring two runs and Colton Webb homered to right field, scoring two runs.
In the top of the fifth, Raddatz banged out a home run to centerfield, scoring three runs.
Kaiden Nichols earned the win on the mound. He went 4.2 innings, giving up one run on no hits, three walks and striking out eight. Carter Braddy came on to get the final out with a strikeout. Thus Casey-Westfield did not get a hit in the contest.
Raddatz collected a double, home run and three RBI while Webb hit a single, home run and had two RBI. Jude Traub had a home run and two RBI, Kaden Koeberlein a double and an RBI while Kaiden Nichols and Braxton Lewis had a double each.
The Hearts return to action today with a game against Newton. The contest was scheduled for Newton but due to a field construction project at the Eagles' facility, it will be moved to Effingham with a 4:30 p.m. start.

At Brownstown
Brownstown/St. Elmo had a 10-hit contest in downing Hillsboro by a 10-8 count Friday.
The Bombers took a 2-0 opening inning lead and led 6-1 after four innings. Hillsboro scored two in the top of the fifth but BSE coumtered with four in the bottom of the frame.
Hillsboro came back with four runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh only to fall short.
BSE was led by Gavin Sanders who went three-for-four with three singles. Josiah Maxey had two singles while Adam Atwood and Cade Schaub had a single and two RBI each. Keelan Speagle had a single and an RBI.
Brownstown/St. Elmo is now 1-2 on the season and back in action Tuesday against North Clay (Louisville).

At Newton
Newton edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 13-12 in a Friday contest that went eight innings.
The Eagles held a 2-0 lead until the third inning when CHBC scored four and had an 8-6 lead after four innings. Newton came back to move ahead 11-9 after six innings. CHBC then tallied two in the seventh to tie the game at 11-11. CHBC moved ahead 12-11 but Newton came back in the bottom of the eighth to score two runs for the win.
Both teams had 11 hits and two errors.
CHBC was led by Clayton Wojcik with a single, double and three RBI, Conner Howitzke with two doubles and two RBI, AJ Radloff with three singles, Carson Evans with two singles and two RBI and Gage Lorton with two RBI.
Newton's Isaac Flowers had two singles, a double and two RBI while Drake Wolf added three singles and two RBI and Gus Bierman a single, double and three RBI. David Ferguson added a single and double and Payton Harris a double and an RBI. M. Meinhart had a single and four RBI.
Newton then traveled to Jacksonville Saturday and took on Marquette and Rock Island.
The Eagles fell to Marquette, 8-1. Marquette stepped out to a 4-1 opening inning lead and added on three more runs in the second.
Marquette had a slight 7-6 hitting edge but the big statistic came as the Eagles finished with eight errors.
Flowers had a double and an RBI and Bierman two singles.
Newton then downed Rock Island, 4-2. The score was knotted at 1-1 after four innings. Rock Island moved into a 2-1 lead in the fifth. But Newton tied in the sixth and then scored two runs in the seventh.
Hayden Mulvey picked up the win, coming on in the final 1.2 innings allowing no runs on no hits and one walk.
Wolf led the way in hitting with a single and double while Flowers had two singles and an RBI and Ferguson two singles.

At Altamont
Altamont fell to Carlyle despite coming back in the bottom of the seventh Saturday.
Carlyle took a 3-0 lead in the second inning. That was the end of the scoring until the bottom of the seventh when the Indians tallied two runs but fell short.
Altamont outhit Carlyle by a 5-3 count but committed five errors.
The Indians were led by Riley Berg with two singles and Parker Bell with a single and two RBI. Keegan Schultz and Brayden Elam had a single each.
Schultz suffered the loss, going all seven innings, allowing three runs on three hits, three walks while striking out five.

North Clay (Louisville) lost two contests during weekend action.
The Cardinals fell to Father McGivney, 12-2 in Friday action.
In Saturday play, North Clay lost to Richland County, 6-3.
North Clay drops to 1-2 on the season and is back in action today at Neoga in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
