Bulldogs Claims One Win, Shoes Drop Two At Metro East Baseball Kickoff

EDWARDSVILLE -- Effingham St. Anthony split victories while Teutopolis fell twice at the Metro East High School Baseball Kickoff during the weekend.

St. Anthony played to an 8-8 tie with Belleville Atlhoff. The Bulldogs moved into a 3-1 lead in the fourth and led 6-4 after five. But Althoff came back with four in the top of the sixth to lead 8-6. The Bulldogs then tied the score in the bottom of the sixth and the game ended.

Brock Fearday had a single, double and an RBI and Samuel Link a double and an RBI. Connor Roepke added two singles and an RBI and Brady Hatton a single and two RBI.

St. Anthony then handed Breese Mater Dei a 5-2 loss.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth before scoring two runs to take the lead 3-2. St. Anthony then tacked on two more runs in the sixth.

Max Koenig led the way in the hitting department with three singles. Aiden Lauritzen added a single and two RBI and Will Fearday a single and an RBI.

Lauritzen was the winner on the mound, going four innings, allowing two runs on two hits, two walks and striking out four.

Teutopolis fell in two close contests by 2-1 and 8-7 counts.

T-town faced Belleville Althoff in the first contest and lost 2-1. The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 lead after two innings before Althoff tied in the fifth and won the game with a run in the sixth.

T-town had six hits led by Mick Niebrugge with a single and double, Mitch Koester with two singles and Dawson Hoene with a double.

In the second contest, T-town rallied in the top of the seventh only to fall short against Bethalto Civic Memorial, 8-7.

Civic Memorial took a 3-0 opening inning lead and led 6-0 after four innings. T-town rallied with a seven-run final inning.

The Shoes had 11 hits led by Davin Worman with a single, home run and an RBI while Evan Waldhoff and M. Niebrugge had a double and two RBI each. Hoene added two singles and Koester a double and an RBI.
