Newton Beats Mount Carmel In Baseball

MOUNT CARMEL -- Newton High School took a 3-0 first inning lead then had to hold off Mount Carmel for a 4-3 baseball victory Thursday.

The Eagles led 3-2 after three innings then tacked on another run in the fifth. Mount Carmel came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth only to fall short.

Both teams had five hits. Newton was led by Isaac Flowers with a single and a solo home run and Max Meinhart with a double and an RBI. Drake Wolf added a single and an RBI.

Dylan Gier went four innings allowing two runs on three hits. He walked six and struck out one for the win. Gus Bierman came on in the fifth and went the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits, three walks and one strikeout.

At Arthur

Altamont and Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond went four innings before the game was ended due to the weather.

Altamont scored a run in the first and ALAH knotted the score at 1-1 in the second. Altamont tallied another run in the fourth. The game was called with two outs in the top of the fourth.

The Indians had three hits led by Keegan Schultz with a solo home run and Brayden Schnarre with a single and an RBI.
