Bullpups, Shoes Win Baseball Sectionals, Mustangs Fall

St. Anthony captured its own regional championship to advance to the Class 1A Sectional Saturday.
Effingham St. Anthony blanked Effingham Sacred Heart 10-0 to win the Class 1A St. Anthony Baseball Regional championship Monday.
The Bullpups stepped out to a 5-0 opening inning lead then added on three in the second and single runs in the third and fourth to end the game via the 10-run rule.
Blake Verdeyen threw a one-hitter, allowing three walks and striking out three.
The Bullpups were led in hitting by Curtis Tingley with a single and double, Nick Roewe with two singles and an RBI. Verdeyen and Jonny Gannaway with a single and an RBI each. Ben McDonald added an RBI.
Sacred Heart's Mason Karolewicz had the lone hit with a single.
St. Anthony advances to its own sectional Saturday to meet Paris Crestwood at 10 a.m. for the right to advance to State.
Paris Crestwood defeated Sigel St. Michael 9-2 to win the St. Michael Regional.

Class 1A Sigel St. Michael Regional
Sigel St. Michael fell to Paris Crestwood in the championship game of its own regional Monday.
Paris Crestwood downed the Sharpshooters, 9-2. Crestwood advances to face Effingham St. Anthony in the St. Anthony Sectional Saturday at 10 a.m.
Class 2A Teutopolis Regional
Teutopolis claimed the championship of its own 2A regional by beating Dieterich, 7-2.
The Wooden Shoes tallied five in the fourth and single runs in the sixth and seventh.
Blake Niemerg had a perfect game going into the seventh and finished giving up two runs on three hits, no walks and striking out three.
Will Bushur led the way for the Shoes with two singles and two RBI while Jake Probst had a single and two RBI and Eric Weidner and Derek Drees a single and an RBI each.
Dieterich was led by Mason Niemerg with a single and two RBI.
The Wooden Shoes advanced to its own sectional Saturday and will take on Jasper County at 11 a.m. for the right to reacb the 2A State Tournament.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional
Jasper County came out the winner in the Casey-Westfield Regional.
Jasper County easily handled Casey-Westfield, 7-1. Jasper County will now face Teutopolis in the Teutopolis Sectional Saturday at 11 a.m. for the right to advance to the 2A State Tournament.
Class 3A Effingham Regional
Effingham saw its outstanding season come to a close in its own 3A Regional Monday.
The Mustangs fell to Taylorville, 2-1. The two teams went through five innings before Taylorville moved ahead 2-0 in the top of the sixth.
Effingham came back with a single run in the bottom of the sixth but that's where the scoring ended.
Both teams had four hits while Taylorville committed two errors.
Hank Nelson earned the lone RBI on the day with a solo home run for Effingham. TJ Raddatz added a double while Ian Kinkelaar and Carson Fox had a single each.
Taylorville's B. Brown had a solo home run while C. Cappellin had a double and drove in the other run. F. Turner added a double.
Taylorville advances to the St. Jacob Triad Sectional Saturday and will face St. Jacob Triad, who won its own regional by downing Highland, 10-2, at 11 a.m.
Effingham ended the season with a 16-3 record.
