St. Anthony Edges T-town To Win Wooden Bat Tourney

The lone run in the contest came in the sixth inning for the Bulldogs. The two teams battled through the first five innings.
St. Anthony had two runners on base in the first inning, one in the second and third innings before finally breaking loose in the sixth.
With one out, Brock Fearday was hit by a pitch. Connor Roepke came up and grounded out to second but was safe as the Wooden Shoes went for the fielder's choice, getting Fearday out at second.
Then Brady Hatton came to the plate and knocked out a double that scored Roepke and that was the lone run of the contest.
The Wooden Shoes had a runner on base in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings. The closest the Shoes came to scoring was when Mick Niebrugge doubled and eventually reached third. But the Bulldogs toughened up and got out of the frame unscathed.
T-town had a runner on in the seventh as Devin Kreke singled but was left stranded and the game ended.
Pitching was the key as Aidan Lauritzen started the contest, going five ininngs, allowing two hits, two walks while striking out six. Nick Ruholl went an inning, allowing one hit while Beau Adams finished out the contest, allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Shoes also had good pitching as Garrett Gaddis went six innings on the mound, allowing four hits, three walks while striking out nine. Davin Worman came on to finish out the final inning.
In the opener, Teutopolis downed North Clay/Clay City, 6-1. The Shoes took a 3-0 lead in the third. Both teams tallied a run in the fourth before T-town finished out with single runs in the fifth and sixth.
The Shoes had eight hits, four for extra bases. Mitch Koester had a double, triple and an RBI while Davin Worman added a single, double and two RBI. Kreke doubled and drove in a run.
Carter Hoene was the winner, going five innings, allowing one run on five hits, one walk and striking out one.
North Clay/Clay City was led by Carter Walden with a single and double. Ayden Jones had an RBI.
In game two, St. Anthony blanked Dieterich 13-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule.
The Bulldogs stepped out to a 5-0 opening inning lead and led 7-0 after two and 11-0 after three. They tallied single runs and ended the game in the fifth with a final run.
Samuel Link was the winning pitcher. He went four innings, allowing no hits, no walks while striking out five. Alex Meyer went the final inning, allowing one hit.
The third place contest went to North Clay/Clay City by a one run margin, 9-8 over Dieterich.
The Cardinals broke loose with two runs in the first but that was short-lived as Dieterich came back to tally four in the top of the third. Dieterich held a 7-5 lead after four and led 8-5 in the top of the sixth. But North Clay/Clay City came back with four runs
The Cardinals' Evan Clifton drew a walk. With one out, Ian Jones followed with a single. Jack Compton singled home Cilfton. Jesse Weidner followed with an RBI double. Cody Zimdars finished out with an RBI to end the contest.
Cayden Craig was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on three hits, no walks and striking out four in the final three innings.
