Cardinals Beat Twins; Cubs Hammer Reds

Dakota Hudson carried a no-hitter into the sixth before Michael Taylor singled for the Twins with one out. Hudson finished up with seven strikeouts, three walks and hit one batter. He retired the first 11 batters he faced before giving up a walk in the fourth. He allowed only two hits.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals offense was going strong with four players hitting home runs. Lars Nootbarr had a two-run blow in the second while Jordan Walker and Tyler O"Neil had a solo homer each, also in the second as the Cardinals took a 4-0 lead. Alec Burleson hit a three-run shot in the third and St. Louis was up 7-0.
The Cardinals finished with 10 hits in the contest.
Matt Wallner hit a three-run homer for the Twins in the seventh.
The Cardinals' Infielder Brendan Donovan underwent an internal brace procedure Wednesday. The procedure is an alternative to ligament replacement or Tommy John surgery. He is expected back next spring.
Tonight, Matthew Liberatore will go against Sonny Gray as the Cardinals and Twins square off once again.
At Chicago
The Chicago Cubs were on offensively once again, bouncing the Cincinnati Reds by a 16-6 count Wednesday. That makes 36 runs the Cubs have scored over the Reds in two games.
Ian Happ homered twice, both solo shots. Cristopher Morel, Dansby Swanson and Seiya Suzuki also went long. Morel finished with three RBI while Happ and Suzuki had two each.
The Cubs trailed 2-0 after the first inning and 3-0 after two. They were back 5-3 after four innings but tied it in the fifth then brought home five runs in the sixth, four in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Chicago finished with 16 hits in the game and Cincinnati had four errors.
The Cubs are now within three games of the Reds who lead the National League Central.
