Shelbyville Downs Stewardson-Strasburg At American Legion Tourney

SHELBYVILLE -- Shelby County-Shelbyville handed Shelby County-Stewardson-Strasburg an 8-1 loss at the Fourth Division Amerian Legion Senior Baseball Tournament Thursday.

The two Shelby County squads clashed in the second game of the tourney at Shelbyville High School. The other game was a forfeit win by Rantoul over Ford Iroquois, that was to be played at Carl Gruber Sports Complex in Tilton.

Shelbyville took a 3-1 opening inning lead over Stewardson-Strasburg then produced four more runs in the second and finished with one run in the third.

Shelbyville had eight hits in the contest led by Dickens and Karbach with two singles and an RBI each, Allen with a double and Trimble and McDonald with a single and two RBI each.

Stewardson-Strasburg was led by Carter Chaney with a double. The other two hits were singles by Ben Meinhart with an RBI and Mason Mulvey.

N. Trimble was the winning pitcher for Shelby County Senior Legion. He went two innings, allowing one run on two hits.

G. Dickens and R. Karbach led the winners with two singles and an RBI each. K. Allen had a double and N. Trimble and D. McDonald had a single and two RBI each.

In the other contest scheduled Thursday, Rantoul won as Ford Iroquois forfeited.

Shelby County-Shelbyville advanced to an 11 a.m. Saturday contest against the winner of the Rantoul vs. Danville game, scheduled today.

Shelby County-Stewardson-Strasburg dropped into the other contest today but will win by forfeit over Ford Iroquois. That will put Stewardson-Strasburg into a Saturday game at 1:15 p.m. against the loser of Rantoul vs. Danville.

The tourney continues Saturday and finished out Sunday.
