American Legion Senior Baseball Tourney Begins Thursday

The Fourth Division American Legion Senior Baseball Tournament will begin Thursday.

The tournament is double elimination and teams include Danville, Shelby County-Shelbyville, Shelby County-Stewardson-Strasburg, Ford Iroquois and Rantoul.

The opening game Thursday between Ford Iroquois and Rantoul will be held at 5 p.m. at Tilton. The two Shelby County teams will play at 6 p.m. at Shelbyville High School. All other games will be held at Carl Gruber Sports Complex in Tilton.

The Shelby County-Stew-Stras squad has a 9-2 record. Adam Bridges is the head coach and assistant coaches are Jeremy Kinkelaar and Colin Kinkelaar.

Team members are Carter Chaney (Stew-Stras), Tyler Wetherell (Stew-Stras), Austin Wittenberg (Stew-Stras), Jordan Wittenberg (Stew-Stras), Sam Vonderheide (Stew-Stras), Connor Manhart (Stew-Stras), Colten Bridges (Stew-Stras), Ben Bridges (Stew-Stras), Jackson Gurgel (Stew-Stras), Kendall Morris (Stew-Stras), Rhett Rincker (Windsor), Ben Meinhart (Newton), Owen Mahaffey (Newton) and Mason Mulvey (Newton).

The schedule is as follows:

Thursday, July 20

Game 1 -- Ford Iroquois vs. Rantoul, 5 p.m. (At Tilton)

Game 2 -- Shelby County-Stew-Stras vs. Shelby County-Shelbyville, 6 p.m. (At Shelbyville)

Friday, July 21

At Tilton

Game 3 -- Winner Game 1 vs. Danville, 5 p.m.

Game 4 -- Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, 7:15 p.m.

Saturday, July 22

At Tilton

Game 5 -- Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 3, 11 a.m.

Game 6 -- Winner Game 4 vs. Loser Game 3, 1:15 p.m.

Game 7 -- Loser Game 5 vs. Winner Game 6, 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, July 23

At Tilton

Game 8 -- Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 7, 1 p.m. (championship)

Game 9 (if necessary)  -- Winner Game 8 vs. Loser Game 8, 3:15 p.m.
