St. A, S. Central Meet For Sectional Title, T-town Season Ends

ALTAMONT -- South Central and Effingham St. Anthony will meet for the championship of the Class 1A Altamont Baseball Sectional after both picked up victories Wednesday

The Cougars edged Arcola, 2-0, scoring single runs in the second and fifth innings.

It was Anthony Buonaura Day as he hit a single, home run and had an RBI and also picked up the win on the mound. Buonaura went the distance, striking out 14 batters. He gave up only two hits and one walk.

Other South Central hits included Callaway Smith with a single and an RBI and Zane Montes and Colton Smith  with a single each.

St. Anthony then had an easy time, downing Casey-Westfield 13-0 in five innings via the 10-run rule.

The Bulldogs struck in the second inning with two runs, then tallied eight in the third and finished with three in the fifth.

St. Anthony had 10 hits spread across nine players. Will Hoene was the lone player with two hits, with a single, double and three RBI. Brock Fearday had a triple and drove in two runs while Eli Levitt and Aiden Lauritzen had a double each. Levitt had one RBI. Beau Adams and Max Koenig had a single and two RBI each and Brock Jansen and Connor Roepke had a single and an RBI each.

Jansen went four innings, allowing no runs on two hits, one walk and striking out two.

South Central (25-6) and St. Anthony will square off Saturday at 10 a.m. for the sectional championship and the right to advance to the Carbondale (SIU) Super-Sectional Monday at 10 a.m. to take on the winner of the Cobden Sectional, either Goreville or Elkville Elverado.

Class 2A Breese Central Sectional

Teutopolis saw its season come to a close in the Breese Central Sectional.

Glen Carbon Father McGivney claimed a 4-1 victory over the Wooden Shoes. Father McGivney had a three-run second. T-town tallied a run in the third. Father McGivney scored its final run in the fifth.

In the three-run second, Kannon Kamp singled with one out. Nicholas Franklin followed with a double. Isaac Wendler had a single and Nathan Terhaar followed with an RBI single. Two walks were issued before the inning ended.

T-town scored its lone run on a single by Bennett Thompson. He was out on a fielder's choice ball hit by Evan Waldhoff. Brett Kreke and Caleb Siemer followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. With two outs, Caleb Bloemer drew a walk to score Waldhoff.

T-town finished the season with a 17-16 record while Father McGivney advanced to the championship game Saturday with a 37-1 mark.

Newton will take on Columbia at 3 p.m. today for the right to advance and meet Father McGivney.

T-town had five hits in the contest led by Caleb Siemer with two singles and Caleb Bloemer with a double and an RBI.

Class 3A Olney  Regional

Marion edged Mattoon in the Olney Regional by a 2-0 count Wednesday.

Marion will now meet either Effingham or Charleston Saturday for the regional championship. EHS and Charleston meet today at 4 p.m.
