Altamont, Cumberland, Newton Win In Regional Baseball Action

Stuemke finished with two singles, two home runs and drove in five. His final display of power came with the bases loaded in the sixth with a grand slam.
The Indians were just on offensively Thursday with four home runs. Mason Robinson finished with two singles, a home run and three RBI while Jared Hammer added a home run and two RBI. Nathan Shepard knocked out two singles and drove in two runs while Dillan Elam and Wyatt Phillips had a single and an RBI each.
Hammer went the distance, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks and striking out six.
Brownstown/St. Elmo was led by Josiah Maxey with a double, Jarrett Pasley with two singles and Kyle Behl with two singles and an RBI. The Bombers ended the season with a 13-12 record.
The Bombers went through three pitchers and committed three errors in the contest.
Altamont advances to a meeting with Effingham St. Anthony at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the Altamont Sectional Wednesday.

Class 1A Neoga Regional
Neoga fell victim to Cumberland in its own regional Thursday.
Cumberland tallied an 11-2 victory.
The Pirates advance to the regional championship Saturday at 11 a.m. against Casey-Westfield. The regional winner will head to the Altamont Sectional next Wednesday.
Class 2A Newton Regional
Newton blanked Marshall by a 3-0 count in the opening game Thursday at its own regional.
The Eagles edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then tallied a final run in the fourth.
Max Meinhart threw a three-hitter with two walks and striking out six.
Newton had eight hits in the game. David Ferguson led the way with two singles and a double. Payton Harris added two singles, Carder Reich a double and Owen Mahaffey a single and an RBI.
In the second contest, Paris edged Lawrenceville 6-5.
Newton will now square off against Paris at 10 a.m. Saturday for the regional championship. The winner will head to the Breese Central Sectional next Thursday.

Salem handed host Greenville a 4-0 loss in Thursday action.
The Wildcats now advance to the regional championship Saturday against Teutopolis at 11 a.m. The winner will advance to the Breese Central Sectional Wednesday.
