St. Anthony Wins City Series Two Games to One; Other Friday 5-12 Baseball Scores

The St. Anthony Bulldogs hit the Effingham Hearts with a five-run first inning on the way to a 10-2 victory Friday night and the championship of the 2023 Baseball City Series. The game was heard on 979XFM. The Bulldogs took the series two games to one. winning Thursday night 4-0 after losing Wednesday night, 8-1. 

The Bulldogs jumped on Camden Raddatz on a single by Beau Adams and a walk to Eli Levitt. With one out, Connor Roepke singled home Adams and Aiden Lauritzen doubled home courtesy runner Henry Brent and Roepke to make it 3-0. Max Koenig singled, then with two outs, Ryan Schmidt doubled home Lauritzen and Koenig to make it 5-0. 

Effingham scored twice in the bottom of the first. Kaden Koeberlein worked a leadoff walk and Kaidyn Nichols reached on a fielder's choice. Jack Harper was hit by a pitch and Quest Hull and Myles Maxedon worked walks, bringing home Nichols. The Hearts plated Harper later in the inning to make it 5-2.

St. Anthony, though, scored five more runs in the third inning. With two outs, Ryan Schmidt walked, Beau Adams singled in Schmidt, Eli Levitt singled in Adams, Brock Fearday singled in courtesy runner Henry Brent, Connor Roepke duobled in Fearday, and Max Koenig singled in Roepke. 

Eli Levitt pitched 5-2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking four and striking out seven.  Samuel Link pitched the final 1-1/3 innings, giving up a walk. 

The Hearts utilized a series of pitchers after Raddatz, including Quest Hull, Colten Webb, Andrew Donaldson and Max Seachrist. They surrendered 13 hits, while walking eight against eight strikeouts.

St. Anthony is now 23-4 on the season, while Effingham is now 15-13.
