T-town, S. Central, Altamont, Newton Claim Baseball Wins

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School handed North Clay/Clay City a 5-2 loss in high school baseball action in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 Tuesday.

The Cardinals struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Ian Jones drew a walk with one out. With two outs, Carder Walden was hit by a pitch. A single by Ayden Jones was followed by a walk to Jesse Weidner. When the dust had cleared, the Cardinals led 2-0.

But T-town came right back in the second inning. With one out, Caleb Bloemer singled, stole second and stole third. Conner Siemer followed with a walk. Joey Niebrugge followed with a double, scoring two runs to knot the score at 2-2. Logan Roepke then reached base on an error. Bennett Thompson followed with a double, scoring both runners and the Shoes moved ahead 4-2.

The only life in the contest in the third inning was a single by T-town's Garrett Gaddis but he was left stranded.

The Cardinals put two on base in the fifth as Logan Fleener singled and Walden drew a walk. But the Wooden Shoes got the next three players on a fly ball and two pop ups.

T-town placed Thompson on base with a double in the fourth and then put Caleb Siemer on base with a walk and Brett Kreke with a single but couldn't score.

T-town finally struck again in the sixth with a run. With two outs, Roepke reached on a fielder's choice, took second on an error and went home on a wild pitch and the Shoes ended the scoring at 5-2.

Thompson led the way for T-town with two doubles and two RBI while Goeckner had a single, double and two RBI.

Ben Goeckner picked up the pitching win, coming on in the second and throwing six innings, allowing no runs on four hits, two walks and striking out six. The Wooden Shoes improved to 10-11.

A. Jones led the Cardinals with two singles. North Clay/Clay City dropped to 16-8 on the season.

In a junior varsity game, Effingham St. Anthony was a 6-1 winner over Teutopolis.

The Bulldogs had 11 hits in the contest, four of those for extra bases. Sam Link had a single, triple and two RBI while Henry Brent and Nick Ruholl had a single and double ech. Will Fearday had a double and an RBI and Ethan Karolewicz two singles and an RBI.

T-town was led by Worman with a double and D. Hoene with a single and an RBI.

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg moved into a 2-0 first inning lead but couldn't hold on as South Central ended with an 8-4 victory Tuesday.

South Central tied the score at 2-2 in the second and moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the third. But Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with two in the bottom of the third to lead 4-3.

The Cougars then tallied three in the fourth and moved ahead 6-4 and never looked back, scoring single runs in the fifth and seventh.

South Central banged out 12 hits in the game led by Aidan Dodson, Andrew Magnus, Zane Montes, Callaway Smith and Colton Smith with two singles each. Smith had two RBI while Dodson, Anthony Buonaura and Smith had an RBI each.

Buonaura went the distance on the mound, allowing four runs on seven hits, one walk and striking out eight.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Austin Wittenberg with a single and two doubles, Jordan Wittenberg with two singles and two RBI and Jackson Gurgel with a single and an RBI.

At Altamont

Altamont's hitting and pitching were on Tuesday as the Indians handed Mulberry Grove a 15-1 loss in five innings.

The Indians stepped out to a 7-1 second inning lead, tacked on three in the third and finished with five in the fourth.

Ethan Robbins pitched 2.1 innings allowing one run on no hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Eli Miller came on to throw 2.2 innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out two for the victory.

Altamont had 11 hits led by Nathan Stuemke with a triple, home run and five RBI, Mason Robinson with a triple and two RBI, Kaidyn Miller had two doubles and two RBI, Kienon Eirhart with a double and two RBI, Nathan Shepard with a single and double and Keegan Schultz with a single and an RBI.

At Altamont

At Neoga

Newton came calling and struck with three runs in the first and four in the second and went on to blank Neoga, 9-0 Tuesday.

The Eagles' offense was in high gear with 16 hits. David Ferguson had two singles, a triple and an RBI while Carder Reich, Isaac Flowers, Gage Reynolds, Gary Lewis and Jacob McClure had two singles each. Reich and Reynolds added an RBI each. Owen Mahaffey and Dalton Baltzell had a single and an RBI each.

Mahaffey was the winner on the mound, going five innings, allowng one hit, four walks and striking out seven. Payton Harris came on to finish out the final two innings, allowing two hits and one walk.

Neoga was led by Malachi Staszak with a double.
