CHBC, BSE, Newton Win; T-town Falls In High School Baseball

DIETERICH -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came calling and captured an 8-1 win over Dieterich in high school baseball action Thursday.

The Bobcats edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead. They then tacked on two in the third, three in the fifth and two in the seventh.

CHBC had eight hits led by Jacob Doty with a single, double and an RBI, Clayton Wojcik with a triple and Carson Evans with two singles. Layne Jones added a single and two RBI.

Radloff was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits.

Dieterich was led by Andrew Hall with a double. The Maroons finished with six errors.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo tallied a run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 9-8 win over Vandalia Thursday.

BSE edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had three-run innings in the second and third to lead 7-3. Vandalia had a two-run fifth and a three-run seventh to knot the score at 8-8 but BSE pulled out the victory as Josiah Maxey had a walk-off double, scoring Caleb Campbell from first base.

Wyatt Forbes and Maxey led the way for the Bombers with a single, double and three RBI each. Jarrett Pasley and Campbell added two singles each. Adam Atwood added a single and an RBI.

Atwood picked up the pitching win in relief, going two innings allowing three runs, two hits, two walks and striking out five.

BSE improved to 10-7 on the season and is back in action Monday at Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

At Robinson

Newton High School continued to roll along with a 6-1 victory over Robinson Thursday.

The Eagles had six hits in the contest but ended up with three errors. Despite the errors, Newton tied the score at 1-1 in the second then moved ahead for good with two in the third.

Gage Reynolds hit a two-run homer for the Eagles while Isaac Flowers had two singles and also drove in two runs. David Baltzell had a triple and David Ferguson a single and an RBI.

Brandon Einrhon went the distance on the mound, allowing one run on four hits, one walk while striking out nine.

At Teutopolis

Mattoon evened its record at 8-8 with a 5-3 win over Teutopolis Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes took a 2-1 first inning lead but Mattoon came back with two runs in the third to lead 3-2. However, the Shoes tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 3-3 and the game went into extra innings.

The Green Wave finished up with two runs in the ninth to pull out the win.

Both teams had nine hits. T-town was led by Evan Waldhoff with a single, double and an RBI while Brett Kreke had a single, double and two RBI. Logan Roepke had two singels.

T-town dropped to 7-10 on the season.

In a junior varsity contest against Marshall, the Wooden Shoes were 17-2 winners in five innings.

T-town banged out 19 hits in the contest while C. Hoene went four innings, allowing two runs on one hit, four walks and six strikeouts for the victory on the mound. B. Thoele went the final inning, allowng one walk and striking out two.

A. Kremer had two singles, a home run and knocked in three RBI while A. Borries had a single, home run and five RBI. H. Thompson had a single, double and two RBI, G. Addis added a double and two RBI and J. Kreke and B. Thoele with two singles each.
