Bulldogs, Bombers Win; Maroons, Hearts Split In Baseball

Effingham St. Anthony handed Robinson a 14-2 loss in five innings of baseball action Friday.

The Bulldogs stepped out to a 6-1 opening inning lead and scored all 14 runs in the first three innings.

Ryan Schmidt had a double, home run and three RBI for the winners while Connor Roepke added two singles, a double and four RBI. Brock Jansen had two singles and three RBI, Max Koenig two singles and two RBI and Eli Levitt two singles.

Jansen went two innings for the win, allowing one run on one hit, three walks while striking out three.

In a game Saturday, the Bulldogs handed Marshall an 11-1 loss in six innings.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 2-0 lead in the third. Both teams scored a run in the fourth but St. Anthony tallied seven in the fifth and ended the game by the 10-run rule in the sixth, 11-1.

Levitt had a double, triple and drove in a run while Beau Adams had a triple. Will Hoene had two singles and three RBI. Roepke and Schmidt had a single and an RBI each.

Nick Ruholl was the winning pitcher, going five innings, allowing one run on two hits, two walks and striking out three.

At Dieterich

Neoga took the early lead but Dieterich tallied a final run in the ninth inning to claim a 6-5 win Friday.

The Indians held a 2-0 first inning lead before Neoga came back in the fourth to knot the score at 3-3. Neoga moved ahead in the top of the fifth and led 5-3 in the top of the sixth. But here came the Maroons with two runs to tie the score at 5-5. The two teams went two scoreless innings before Dieterich pulled out the win.

Garrett Niebrugge hit a solo home run while Lucas Westendorf had a double and Mason Lidy and Sam Hardiek had a single and an RBI each.

Noah Dill went 7.1 innings allowing five runs on five hits, two walks while striking out nine. But Mason Lidy came on in the final 1.2 innings for the win allowing one walk and striking out one.

Neoga was led by Ryan Koester with a single, home run and two RBI and Trey Sheehan with a single and two RBI. Quintin Richards added an RBI.

In a Saturday contest, Robinson edged Dieterich, 4-3.

Dieterich took a 1-0 first inning lead and held that until the fifth when Robinson tallied five runs. Dieterich came back with two in the seventh only to fall short.

Dieterich had two hits led by Lidy and Dominic Ashley with a single each. Justin Boerngen had two RBI and Dill one.

At Mulberry Grove

Brownstown/St. Elmo easily handled Mulberry Grove by a 17-8 count Friday.

BSE held a 6-5 lead after two innings, then had two-run innings in the third and fifth, one in the sixth and finished out with six in the seventh.

Adam Atwood had two singles, a double and five RBI for the winners while Cade Schaub had two singles, a double and an RBI. Wyatt Forbes had two singles, three RBI and Caleb Campbell two singles and two RBI. Josiah Maxey added two singles and an RBI. Wyatt Stine finished with a single and two RBI.

Atwood was the winner on the mound, going five innings, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out four.

BSE is now 8-6 on the season and back in action today at Flora.

At Teutopolis

Nashville came calling and captured a 7-2 victory over Teutopoils Friday.

The Hornets took a 2-0 first inning lead and scored all seven of its runs through the first three innings. T-town had a run in the third and a run in the fifth.

Nashville had nine hits in the contest led by Harrison Zgonina with a single, double and an RBI and Kaden Linkey with two singles and two RBI.

Zgonina was the winning pitcher, going five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks while striking out four.

Teutopolis had five hits led by Evan Waldhoff with a single and double. Mitch Jansen, Bennet Thompson and Brett Kreke had a single each.

T-town dropped to 7-7 on the season while Nashville moved to 16-2.

Saturday Games

Effingham High School split an Apollo Conference doubleheader with Lincoln Saturday.

The Hearts won the opener 3-1 behind the three-hit pitching of Josh McDevitt. He allowed one walk, keeping Lincoln off balance with 12 strikeouts.

EHS had three hits led by Spencer Fox and John Harper with a single and an RBI each and Colton Webb with a single.

Lincoln came back to take the second contest by an 8-7 count.

The Hearts opened with a 1-0 first inning lead but Lincoln came back with a three-run top of the fourth. The Hearts pulled within 3-2 in the bottom of the frame then moved ahead 4-3 in the fifth inming.

However, the Railsplitters had a five run fifth to lead 8-4. EHS tallied a run in the sixth and almost came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh only to fall a run short.

Quest Hull went two-for three at the plate for the Hearts with two singles. Spencer Fox added a triple and Colton Webb had a single and an RBI.

In junior varsity play, EHS swept the doubleheader. They took the opener 3-0 scoring two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Ethan Jones threw a one-hitter with three walks and 10 strikeouts.

The Hearts had five hits, all singles by five different players. Nolan Fearday, Max Flack, Brody Boehm, Peter Rosen and Brayden Tucker each had one hit.

In the second game, the Hearts struck in the second inning with six runs and went on to down Lincoln 14-3 in five innings.

Brody Boehm had two doubles and drove in five runs while Max Flack had two singles and a double. Rogan Allen had two singles and an RBI.

Bushur picked up the win on the mound, going three innings, allowing three runs on five hits, three walks and striking out one.

Flora came calling and handed Neoga a 10-3 loss Saturday.

Neither team scored through the first four innings. Flora finally got unwound, scoring seven runs in the fifth. Neoga came back with three in the sixth but Flora added on three more in the seventh.

Neoga outhit Flora by an 8-7 count. Ryan Koester had a single, doouble and an RBI, Trey Sheehan had two single sand an RBI and Micah Staszak had two singles.

Flora's T. Sharp went five innings, allowing no runs on five hits, three walks and striking out seven.

St. Anthony tallied three runs in the second and held off Marshall for a 3-2 victory in junior varsity action Saturday.

The Bulldogs had four hits and were aided by three Marshall errors.

Tim Seiler and Noah Flaig had a single and an RBI each while Sam Link and Henry Brent had a single apiece.

Drake Brown went four innings for the win, allowing no runs on one hit, three walks and four strikeouts.
