MZ Edges T-town; BSE, Altamont, Dieterich, Newton, NC/CC Win In Big Scoring Baseball Games

MOUNT ZION -- The closest game of the day in high school baseball came as Teutopolis traveled to Mount Zion Thursday.

The game ended up a pitcher's duel as Joey Niebrugge went six innings to end up with the loss despite allowing only four hits, two walks while striking out seven.

Brendan Doyle ended up with the pitching victory, going all seven innings allowing one run on six hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

The two teams were scoreless through two innings before the Braves moved ahead 2-0 in the third. T-town pulled within 2-1 in the fourth but that was all the scoring the rest of the way.

T-town outhit Mount Zion by a 6-4 count. Bennet Thompson and Caleb Bloemer led the way with two singles each. Bloemer had an RBI. The other two hits were singles by Evan Waldhoff and Niebrugge.

Sammy Driscoll led Mount Zion with two singles. Drew Hittmeier had a single and drove in a run.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo ended its high school baseball contest against Odin/Patoka/Sandoval by a 15-5 count in six innings Thursday.

The score was knotted at 4-4 after the first inning before BSE stepped ahead with a five-run third and ended the game in the six via the 10-run rule.

Wyatt Stine allowed four hits, two walks while striking out nine in the contest for the win on the mound.

BSE made the hits count. Caleb Campbell led the way offensively for the Bombers with two singles and an RBI. Wyatt Forbes had a single and two RBI. Adam Atwood, Jarrett Pasley, Wyatt Forbes and Josiah Maxey had a single and drove in a run each.

BSE improved to 7-6 on the season and returns to action today at Mulberry Grove.

At Altamont

Altamont slapped out 16 hits, had a couple big scoring innings and tallied a 16-6 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in six innings Thursday.

Five players had two or more hits in the contest for the Indians. Jared Hammer and Kaidyn MIller had a single, double and an RBI each while Logan Cornett had three singles. The two Nathans, Stuemke and Shepard had two singles each. Stuemke finished with four RBI while Shepard had two. Mason Robinson had a single and three RBI and Eli Miller added a single and an RBI.

CHBC took a 2-0 first inning lead but Altamont taliled five in the second. CHBC pulled within 5-4 in the top of the third but the Indians came right back and scored seven in the bottom of the frame and finished the game in the sixth with two runs.

Wyatt Phillips went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits, no walks while striking out four in the win on the mound.

CHBC was led by Jacob Doty with a single, home run and two RBI, Clayton Wojcik with two singles and Wyatt Rueff and Drake Davis a single and an RBI each.

At Altamont

Dieterich stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to blank Ramsey, 18-0 in four innings Thursday.

The Movin' Maroons finished with 16 hits in the game, five of those for extra bases. Pete Britton had a single, two doubles and six RBI while Jaxon Funneman had a double, triple and five RBI.Garrett Niebrugge had two singles, a double and two RBI. Andrew Hall and Noah Dill had two singles and an RBI each.

Sam Hardiek went the four innings on the mound allowing three hits, two walks while striking out four.

Newton didn't score until the fourth but ended up with seven runs in that inning and three in the fifth to end this contest at 10-0 over Lawrenceville in the fifth Thursday.

Carder Reich threw a one-hitter with two walks and six strikeouts.

The Eagles had 10 hits in the game and was aided by three Lawrenceville errors.

Owen Mahaffey led the way offensively with a single, double and three RBI while Payton Harris added a single, double and an RBI. Reich had two singles and two RBI and Isaac Flowers two singles. Gage Reynolds finished with double and two RBI.

The Cardinals are now 14-4 on the season and return to action today against Centralia.
