A second Effingham High School graduate has been chosen in the Major League Baseball player draft.

Righthander Chad Green was chosen Saturday by the Detroit Tigers.  Green, who is a starting pitcher at the University of Louisville, was picked by the Tigers in the 11th round, the 336th overall pick.

Green follows Nick Gardewine, who was chosen in the seventh round by the Texas Rangers on Friday.

Green is the son of Howard and Sheena Green of Effingham.

Chad started for Louisville Saturday in the College World Series Super-Regional at Vanderbilt and earned a no-decision in a game eventually won by Louisville, 5-3.  Green pitched five innings, allowing two runs on six hits.

Louisville then beat Vanderbilt again Sunday, 2-1, to claim the Super-Regional and advance to the College World Series that begins this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Green family was in Nashville for the ballgames and headed home to Effingham Sunday evening.  Howard Green said the Tigers have adopted a "hands-off policy" toward their draft choices involved in the World Series until the competition ends.  He said they'll then discuss whether Chad might be signing with the Tigers.
