S. Central Wins Own Wooden Bat Tourney; Altamont Second At Tiger Showcase; Area Baseball Roundup

KINMUNDY -- South Central captured the championship of its own Wooden Bat Baseball Tournament during the weekend.

The Cougars blanked North Clay/Clay City, 9-0 Friday behind the no-hit pitching of Aidan Dodson.

Dodson started the Cougars in the right direction by striking out 12 and giving up only two walks.

South Central edged out to a 1-0 second inning lead then had a four-run third, tacked on a run in the fifth and finished with three in the sixth.

The Cougars had only three hits, two singles and an RBI by Zane Montes and a single by Anthony Buonaura.

South Central opened Saturday's competition by blanking Woodlawn, 15-0.

This time Ethan Dunn took the win on the mound, throwing a one-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Chase Thompson hit a single, home run and drove in three while Andrew Magnus had a home run and three RBI and Buonaura a double and two RBI. Brody Markley, Ethan Watwood and Colton Smith had a single and an RBI each.

North Clay/Clay City blanked Woodlawn, 15-0 and then won over Flora, 11-0.

South Central finished out with a 4-1 victory over Flora for the championship.

The Cougars edged out to a 1-0 lead in the third then tallied two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Markley had a single and two RBI while Dodson had a single and an RBI.

Coen West was the winning pitcher, going three innings, allowing no run on no hits, two walks while stiriking out four.

At Beardstown

Altamont captured second place the the Sixth Annual Tigar Showcase during the weekend.

In a Friday contest, Altamont downed Hamilton 13-4.

The Indians edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then had a five-run fourth and a seven-run fifth to end the contest.

Altamont finished with 12 hits led by Kienon Eirhart with a home run and three RBI, Jared Hammer with two singles, a double and four RBI, Dillan Elam with a single and double, Mason Robinson with a triple and an RBI and Nathan Stuemke with a double.

Robinson was the winner on the mound, going the five innings, allowing four runs on three hits, three walks while striking out nine.

Altamont then downed Beardstown 5-1 in Saturday action. The Indians tallied single runs in the second, third and fifth inings around two in the fourth.

Hammer picked up the victory on the mound, going five innings allowing, two hits, three walks and striking out three.

Kaidyn Miller was the leader offensively with two singles, a home run and one RBI. Robinson add a triple and two RBI and Eirhart two singles and an RBI.

Quincy Notre Dame blanked Carrollton 19-0 and downed Illini West 10-1.

Notre Dame and Altamont then squared off for the championship of the Tiger Showcase.

Notre Dame took a 1-0 first inning lead, tacked on another run in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth and fifth innings and finished with three in the sixth for the 10-5 win over the Indians.

Altamont taliled one in the fifth and two in the sixth and seventh innings.

Notre Dame had 14 hits in the contest.

Altamont countered with eight hits, a solo home run by Wyatt Phillips, two singles and two RBI by K. Miller and two singles by Stuemke. Eirhart and Keegan Schultz had a single and an RBI each.

At Bridgeport

Brownstown/St. Elmo and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City competed in the Red Hill Round Robin Saturday.

All three teams with 1-1 in the round robin.

Brownstown/St. Elmo defeated Red Hill, 6-4. Red Hill took a 3-0 lead in the second before BSE tied in the fourth then moved ahead with two in the fifth.

Adam Atwood had two doubles and drove in three runs while Kyle Behl had a single and double, Wyatt Stine two singles and an RBI and Cade Schaub a single and and RBI.

Atwood picked up the win on the mound, going all seven innings allowng four runs on nine hits, two walks while striking out 13.

In the second game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City won over BSE by a 15-8 count. CHBC broke a 2-2 opening inning tie with three run in the second.

CHBC had 13 hits led by AJ Radloff with two doubles and two RBI, Wyatt Rueff and Jacob Doty with a single, home run and two RBI each, Clayton Wojcik with two singles and three RBI and Kyle Lambwith three singles and an RBI.

BSE was led by Atwood with a double, home run and two RBI and Behl with two singles and a double.

CHBC then fell to Red Hill by a 10-0 tally. The game ended in the sixth inning.

CHBC had five hits led by Rueff with two singles.

Newton played two games over the weekend.

Salem tallied an 11-9 win over the Eagles with a four-run second inning.

The Wildcats had 11 hits in the contest while Newton committed four errors.

Newton had eight hits led by Owen Mahaffey with two singles and two RBI and Marc Jansen with two singles and two RBI.

Newton then edged Robinson by a 3-2 count.

The Eagles held a 1-0 lead until Robinson tied in the third and moved ahead 2-1 in the fourth. Newton then won the contest with a two-run sixth.

Isaac Flowers and Payton Harris had a single and an RBI each.

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Newton Friday in a junior varsity game and sent the Eagles home with a 12-6 loss.

The Bulldogs ripped out to a 7-0 opening inning lead and never looked back.

St. Anthony had a 17-hit attack led by E. Karolewicz with a single, two doubles and three RBI, R. Schmidt with three singles and two RBI, V. Gogtel, 3 singles and one RBI; M. Clark and T. Seiler with two singles and an RBI each and H. Brent with two singles.
