Dieterich, BSE, T-town Win In Baseball Action; St. A Wins JV Contest

DIETERICH -- Dieterich played host to Newton and handed the Eagles a 10-5 loss in high school baseball action Tuesday.

The Eagles moved ahead 1-0 in the top of the second but Dieterich came right back with a four-run bottom of the second. Newton tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth and pulled ahead 5-4 in the top of the sixth.

But the Movin' Maroons came roaring back with six runs in the bottom of the inning for the victory.

Noah Dill led the way in hitting for the Maroons with two singles, a double and three RBI. Sam Hardiek had a single and drove in two runs while Garrett Niebrugge had a single and an RBI.

Dill picked up the win on the mound, coming on in relief in the sixth and giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.

Newton was led by Gage Reynolds with a single, double and an RBI, David Ferguson a double and an RBI, Dylan Gier two singles and an RBI and Dalton Baltzell and Carder Reich with two singles each.

At Brownstown

Brownstown/St. Elmo whipped out to a 5-1 opening inning lead over Oblong/Palestine/Hutsonville then had to hold on for a 10-9 victory Tuesday.

BSE led 7-4 after three innings but OPH came back with two in the top of the fourth. BSE tallied one in the fifth. OPH moved ahead in the top of the seventh with three runs to lead 9-8. BSE then tallied the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Wyatt Forbes led BSE in hitting with a single, double and two RBI while Adam Atwood had a triple and Josiah Maxey a single and two RBI.

Brownstown/St. Elmo improved to 4-4 on the season.

At Brownstown

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis broke a 1-1 opening inning tie and went on to pound Robinson by a 14-1 count in five innings Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes finished with 16 hits in the contest led by Bennet Thompson with two singles, a double and two RBI, Caleb Bloemer with two singles, a double and an RBI, Evan Waldhoff and Mitch Jansen with two singles and three RBI each, Garrett Gaddis with two singles and two RBI, Brett Kreke with a single and two RBI and Mitch Koester with a single and an RBI.

Gaddis went four innings for the win on the mound, allowing one run on two hits, two walks while striking out nine. Conner Hoelscher finished out the final inning.

The Shoes led 4-1 after three innings then tallied nine runs in the fourth.

At Teutopolis

Okaw Valley scored single runs through the first three innings and one in the fifth for a 4-1 victory over Neoga Tuesday.

Neoga tallied its lone run in the first inning.

Okaw Valley had eight hits while Neoga tallied four.

The Indians were led by Malachi Staszak with a single and an RBI. Trey Sheehan, Brady Reynolds and Bryar Hennesay had a single each.

At Bethany

Junior Varsity Game

Effingham St. Anthony hosted Altamont at Evergreen Park in a junior varsity contest Tuesday.

Altamont edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning but St .Anthony tied in the third. The Bulldogs moved ahead 2-1 in the fifth but Altamont tied in the top of the sixth. The Bulldogs scored five in the bottom of the sixth to lead 7-2. Altamont's comeback bid in the seventh fell short.

St. Anthony had nine hits led by Ryan Schmidt with a single, double and two RBI, Vincent Vogel a double and Will Fearday with two singles and an RBI.

Maddux Clark picked up the win, going one inning, allowing one run on two hits.

Keegan Schultz and Aden McManaway had two singles and an RBI each for Altamont. Miller added a double and an RBI.
