EHS Splits Baseball Wins; Altamont, S. Central Claim Two, T-town Wins One, Neoga, N.C. Victorious

MAHOMET -- Effingham's Josh McDevitt and John Harper combined to toss a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over Mahomet-Seymour in the first game of a high school baseball doubleheader Saturday.

McDevitt started the contest and went 5.2 innings, keeping the Bulldogs off balance with 13 strikeouts. He allowed five walks. Harper came on to throw 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.

Meanwhile, the Hearts had only three hits, two singles by Harper with an RBI and a single by Camden Raddatz.

Mahomet-Seymour committed four errors.

The second game was entirely different as Mahomet-Seymour came back to allow only one hit by the Hearts while banging out nine in an 11-0 win in five innings.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 1-0 opening inning lead then led 2-0 after two, 4-0 after three and ended the game with seven in the fourth.

Bergman went four innings for M-S, allowing one hit, four walks and eight strikeouts in the win.

Raddatz had the lone hit for the Hearts with a single.

In junior varsity play, Mahomet-Seymour captured both victories over Effingham.

The Bulldogs won the opener 8-4 with a five-run first inning. Mahomet-Seymour had 10 hits in the game and stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead.

EHS was led by Ethan Jones with a double.

In the second game, Mahomet-Seymour blanked the Hearts, 8-0.

EHS had only one hit, a single by C. Michael.

At Fairfield

Altamont won big in both varsity and junior varsity play against Fairfield Saturday.

The Indians blanked Fairfield by a 14-0 count in five innings of the varsity game.

Dillan Elam went all five innings, throwing a one-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Meanwhile, the Indians banged out 11 hits in the game and were aided by four Fairfield errors.

Of the 11 hits in the contest, six were for extra bases. Mason Robinson led the way with a single, two doubles and drove in three runs. Kienon Eirhart had a single, double and two RBI while Jared Hammer had a single, double and one RBI. Logan Cornett had double and two RBI and Keegan Schultz a double.

In the junior varsity game, Clayton Arnold threw a no-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts at the Indians won 11-1 in four innings.

Altamont took a 7-0 opening inning lead and tallied two in the second and two in the fourth.

Kade Milleville had a single and double, Kaden Davis two singles and two RBI, Chuck Miller a triple and two RBI and Brayden Elam a triple. Arnold added a single and drove in two runs.

At Casey

South Central captured two victores over Casey-Westield Saturday.

The Cougars blanked the Warriors 17-0 in six innings. South Central edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then broke the game open with a six-run third.

Anthony Buonaura lit up the game offensively with two singles, two home runs and six RBI. Chase Thompson added three singles and an RBI while Andrew Magnus and Callaway Smith had a single and drove in two runs each.

Buonaura also was the winning pticher, going three innings, allowing no runs on one hit, one walk while striking out seven. Coen West came home the next three innings, allowng no runs on no hits, one walk and also striking out seven.

In the second game, South Central edged Breese Central by a 5-4 count.

Breese Central held a 2-0 first inning lead and led 3-2 after four. But South Central unwound with a three-run fifth and held off a final inning challenge by Breese Central for the victory.

South Central had seven hits led by Aiden Dodson with two singles and an RBI.

Dodson also was the winning pitcher. He went 6.2 innings allowing four runs on three htis, three walks and striking out 10.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis split a doubleheader with Salem Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes won the opener 10-2. Salem actually held a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth but the Shoes put the game away with a nine-run bottom of the inning.

T-town had nine hits led by Garrett Gaddis with a double and three RBI, Logan Roepke with two singles and an RBI, Mitch Jansen with two singles and Bennett Thompson with a single and two RBI.

Joey Niebrugge picked up the win on the mound, going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, one walk and striking out three.

In the second contest, Salem again moved ahead with a 3-1 first inning lead and went on to hold off the Shoes for a 4-3 win.

T-town outhit Salem by an 8-7 count. Waldhoff, Gaddis and Brett Kreke had two singles each for the Shoes while Mtich Jansen had a single and an RBI.

Neoga pounded out 12 hits and trounced Tri-County by an 18-3 count in five innings Saturday.

The Indians took a 4-0 first inning lead before Tri-County pulled within 4-3 in the second. Neoga tacked on a single run in the third and then blasted the game open with an 11-run fourth.

Bryar Hennesay went three innings, allowing three runs on one hit, two walks and six strikeouts for the pitching victory.

Ryan Koester led offensively with two singles, a double and three RBI while Quintin Richards had a single, double and three RBI. Lacy Keaton had a double and two RBI and Micah Staszak a single and three RBI. Trey Sheehan added two singles and an RBI and Brady Reynolds two singles.

At Kansas

North Clay/Clay City picked up a 6-2 win over Red Hill (Bridgeport) Saturday.

The Cardinals improved to 7-3 on the season and return to action Tuesday against Mount Carmel.
