EHS, North Clay Split Baseball Games Vs. Opponents

TROY -- Effingham High School claimed a victory and suffered a loss at the Triad Baseball triple-header Saturday.

The Hearts won their opener 9-7 over Mount Vernon. The Rams broke a 1-1 opening inning tie with a three-run second. EHS came back with a run in the third but Mount moved into a 7-2 lead in the fourth.

In the top of the sixth, Effingham tied the score at 7-7 when Spencer Fox singled,scoring two runs. The Hearts then won the contest with a two-run seventh.

The Hearts collected nine hits in the contest. Quest Hull had three of those hits, a single, double, home run and three RBI while Evan Waymoth had a single and double, Max Seachrist hit a triple while Fox had a single and two RBI and Camden Raddatz and Colton Webb a single and an RBI each.

Andrew Donaldson was the winner on the mound, going 2.1 innings, allowing no runs on one hit and one strikeout.

The Hearts came back to square off against Triad and couldn't get much of an offense going in this one.

Triad edged ahead 1-0 in the first, then had a two-run third and tacked on a final run in the fifth.

The Hearts had only four hits led by Fox with a triple.

Jack McDevitt went the distance allowing four runs on seven hits, no walks while striking out eight in the tough-luck loss.

In the first game of the triple-header, Mount Vernon blanked Triad, 11-0.

At Jacksonville

North Clay (Louisville) competed against two teams at Jacksonville and split victories.

In the opener, the Cardinals defeated Greenville, 7-5.

Jacksonville Routt then blanked North Clay 5-0 in the second contest.

North Clay is now 3-2 on the season and returns to action today against Okaw Valley.
