Chad Green, who graduated from Effingham High School and went on to become a Major League baseball pitcher for the New York Yankees, was shown interest by the Toronto Blue Jays, who have agreed to sign him for $8.5 million in a two-year deal with options for 2025 and 2026.

Green, a 31-year-old right-hander, had Tommy John surgery, and has been recuperating. He signed with the Yankees in 2016 and had been a steady reliever. He made 24 starts and in the last three years has been coming out of the bullpen.

He made 272 appearances for the Yankees and had a 3.17 ERA, 1.022 WHIP and 11 saves.

His last game for the Yankees was in 2022 when he left May 19 with discomfort in his arm and saw his season end due to Tommy John sugery.

Green will miss the 2023 season but may come in at the end of the season according to how his arm is feeling.
