Neoga advanced to the Class 1A State Tournament with a win Saturday in its own sectional.
NEOGA -- Neoga Junior High School claimed its own Class 1A Baseball Sectional championship Saturday.
Neoga edged Effingham Sacred Heart, 1-0. Malik Coy pitched six shutout innings with 13 strikeouts.
Cayden Hakman finished the job on the mound pitching one inning, striking out two.
Kaden Bryant knocked in the games only run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Neoga advances to the Class 1A State Tournament at Eastside Centre, East Peoria Friday. Neoga will play a 2 p.m. contest against the winner of Sectional E, either Colchester W. Prairie or Griggsville-Perry.
Class 2A Casey-Westfield Sectional
Teutopolis defeated Jasper County to win the Casey-Westfield Sectional Saturday. The Wooden Shoes were 9-3 winners.
T-town scored two in the third inning then moved that to a 6-2 lead in the fourth. Jasper County came back with one in the sixth but T-town finished out strong with three in the seventh.
T-town had 11 hits led by N. Schumacher wth two singles and three RBI, M. Habing with two singles and an RBI, R. Bloemer with a double and two RBI and H. Tebbe with a double.
R. Bloemer went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, four walks while striking out five.
T-town advances with a 17-5 record to face Maroa-Forsyth at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Class 2A State Tournament.
